Wheels Rotating Wrong Way

Yeah. But I’m pretty sure you aren’t the only one <!– s;) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!– s;) –>

I have created quite a number of wagons, but it has been a while since I created the last one, and can’t remeber what version of 3DC I used. I now have v5.6 and started creating a new wagon from scratch today. I also decided to use the MSTS Wizard for the first time too. Everything seems fine, except the wheels rotate the wrong way, and quite slowly. I named the wheels frames Wheels11 and Wheels12 and put them into a frame Bogie1 as usual, and the frame axes all point the right way, but I have obviously done something wrong. Has anyone had this problem?

The andquot;Normalize Groupsandquot; plug-in should correct the problems with the wheels. But, you’ll need to re-crease the wheels after running it.

As for the speed… it could be that 3DC is calculating the wrong size for the wheels. Did you enter the values yourself or have 3DC do it for you?

I have it sorted now, it was my fault for not reading the instructions. I had not set up the wheel configuration 4-0 as I had assumed these fields were only for steam locomotives. I did not need to do the ‘Normalise Groups’. <!– s:-) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":-)" title="Smile" /><!– s:-) –>

After doing the original tutorial on the 4 wheel wagon, I figured that there must be a better way. I found it with Normalize Groups and have been using it ever since.

Took me along time to realize I had to re-crease if it had a texture on it.

All it does is it changes each object’s axis to that is directed along the andquot;normalandquot;/default direction. So it’s axis point’s Y point up, it’s Z points and it’s X points to the left. Some programs (such as MSTS) assume that axes will be normalized in order to automatically animate items. The andquot;model preparationandquot; tutorial ([img:3tajrhnl]http&#58;//www&#46;amabilisplus&#46;com/3DCDocumentation/tutorialmstsmodelpreparation&#46;htm[/img:3tajrhnl]

) uses this function to ensure that the model points in the correct direction when loaded into MSTS.

I’ve been using the andquot;shiftandquot; function to manually do it.

Will someone discuss the use of andquot;normalizeandquot; function. andnbsp;Does it center and turn the frames so they are oriented forward? I haven’t ever thought to try using it until I saw this post.
