This was the ‘animation camera’ issue. I have it fixed now.

Just some initial testing… I turned the animation camera on – changed the views a few time – programs crashed error 404… On subsequent runs program continued to crash when switching views a couple of times… Seems to crash most often when going back to the four pane view… Haven’t looked at the registry keys yet to see if the animation camera is still on…

I’m very happy. I managed to get this to happen on my computer. I thought it was one of those things I’d never reproduce.
Looks a bit scary to fix though. Hopefully not.
