UV map / lost

This is a bug. It should be fixed in 7.0.2.1. Hopefully I’ll have it out today.

Q. after unwrapping and UV mapping a head… i save and reopen the model and the map (or texture) is gone. What is happening here? am i suppose to save the UV map somehow…

Also, i apply the UV texture and then I want to move some points on the UV map, so i do… then 3DC re-saves my texture with the new unwrap over the top. This is not want i want.

What you using to unwrap the model…3dc?
Yes when you unwrap a model you need to save the UV map…if you are using 3dc to unwrap, after you save the UV map run the Update Material plugin…the map should appear on the head.
Make sure the model and texture(the uv map) are both in the same folder.

yea. im using 3dc to unwrap ‘er.
Where is the unwrap material plug in located or what is it?
… and i did not know you had to put the model and texture in the same folder. I am accustom to everything being in an organized folder structure type of thing.

Under Toolsandgt;andgt;andgt;Use Plugin you should have a Plugin called Update Material…run this.

The first place 3dc will look for the texture is in the same folder as the model…if it ain’t there it won’t show.

many thanks. It’s slowly coming together. And also recognizing the textures.
Any human have a suggestion for an unwrap program i could play with that works with 3DC?

Ultimate Unwrap 3D is my choice, it’s widely used, doesn’t break the bank and their are loads of tuts on the net.

However like all things 3D it does take a bit of getting used to, but will bring a smile to your face when you see how easy it is to unwrap a head.

Here’s link to a figure unwrap in UU3D

Unlike 3DC you don’t have to keep saving the uv map after you select each group of faces. You can lay them out around the uv map area, then when all the faces are unwrapped, arrange them in the map area. When your happy you just save the Uv map and export the model

Not only that you can stitch the uv seams back together to reduce the number of seams…this is a great feature.

You can do a basic unwrap on a head in about 5 mins using the cylinder unwrap but need to move some of the verts around to get the checker pattern to lay correctly.

If you decide to get this I can do a quick tut on unwrapping a head.
