Using bevel crashes pc

Many thanks for the replies.

I am using the latest nvidia driver ( 43.45), 3DC 6.03 and directx 9.0a.

I just tried bevel again and 3DC stopped responding again. Once or twice the function has worked but it takes absolutely ages.

There is probably some rogue program on my pc causing problems, I will have to try to track it down.

Apart from this problem I am delighted with 3DC. Even as a comparative novice I have found the program very easy to use.

Regards

Paul

I am having a problem using the bevel tool. Whenever I use it and try to set up the profile (as described in tutorial), the program stops responding.

I have dowloaded and installed directx 9.0a, new nvidia drivers and I have reinstalled 3DC 3D Pro, all to no avail.

As far as I know other functions are working okay, but there could well be other problems I haven’t found yet.

I am running a Pentium 4 1.5mhz with 512mb ram and an nvidia mx 400 64mb graphics card.

3DC 3D carries out its compatability tests with no problems reported.

Anyone got any idea what the trouble is?

Many thanks

Paul

Hello again,
andnbsp; Just gave 5.7 a try- worked OK there also.

Hi Paul_K,
andnbsp;Welcome to 3DC !
andnbsp; What driver are you trying? I know NVidea just came out with a new one I’m trying- 4.3.4.5. I tried to duplicate the bevel problem but it works fine for me. <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>
andnbsp;What version of 3DC are you using? [ 6.004 for me ]
andnbsp; It does sound like the usual andquot; update driver andquot; problem, but someone might have another sugestion.

The bevel function adds quite a few faces to an object so perhaps you have exceeded a limitation in 3DC. It appears the limitation is lower in Windows 9x/Me than with XP but is likely somewhere around 32K-64k faces per object.

Richard

Been doing some experiments with bevel.

If I use the text tool and type ‘3D’ on the lowest quality setting I can bevel the object quite well (also cubes bevel just fine).

If I try the same (i.e. typing ‘3D’) but use the highest quality setting in the text tool I can still bevel the result, but only just – takes ages.

Trying to bevel a word containing, say, 6 letters seems to be too much for my pc and it stops responding. Could it be some buffer or other not being able to keep track of the calculations?

Great. I’ve tried a couple other programs [ mostly to see what the heck others were talking about here. ] and have the most fun here. The forums are the best [ in my opinion andnbsp;;D]
andnbsp; If you find the problem, post it, might help someone else.
