TrainUprightViewFacingFlora.fx shader

Here’s the sample I sent Hank. I’ve used the group/object custom field to set the lods so that the distant lod can be set to 2000m, setting lods otherwise defaults the distant lod to 1000m. Also, I used a separate texture for the ‘selection box’.

Note the use of ‘Invisible’ in the RailSim custom material field for the selection box and ‘TrainUprightViewFacingFlora.fx’ for the tree shader. On export (you need to use Paul’s exporter) make sure you select the tree hierarchy so that both objects will be exported.

How do I apply this to a 2D tree shape exported as an IGS file to RS?

Hank

Hank,

Here’s how I set up a 3DC model to use that shader:

– Model is a single sided rectangle facing in the -Z direction (facing you in the front orthographic view). Model origin is centered at the bottom of the rectangle.
– Material is a tga with the desired image, transparent parts identified by the alpha channel.
– Material properties set up with the TxAlpha field set to ‘Transparency’, and the RailSim field set to ‘TrainUprightViewFacingFlora.fx’.
– Export with Paul’s latest exporter: Fileandgt;Exportandgt;Trainworks-andgt;ailSim Geometry – New
– Go through the usual RS Asset Editor process to get the model into the sim.

Jim

My first attempt failed. You say AI format, not IGS? If I do that format, I get the error message no animation found.

What parameters, if any, need to be set in the scenery blueprint?

Why can’t this be done through the Tools/Trainworks/RailSim option?

Hank

I downloaded the plugin you referred to and put it in the sub-directory in the 3DCP7 directory.

Where where should I see a reference to it or select it?

Hank,

The export should be *.igs, not sure how I mis-directed you to *.ia unless it was a typo… The export line should have read ‘
– Export with Paul’s latest exporter: Fileandgt;Exportandgt;Trainworks-andgt;[b:1u8hjfad]R[/b:1u8hjfad]ailSim Geometry – New [b:1u8hjfad](*.IGS)[/b:1u8hjfad]’. I just used a simple ‘scenery’ blueprint. If I can get my act together I’ll package up a simple 3DC model, texture and RS files for you to experiment with.

Richard hasn’t integrated all Paul’s code into Trainworks yet so we need to invoke Paul’s plugin as a standalone tool for now.

I downloaded the file which has ‘RSIGS2.dll’ in it.
I added that to the ‘PluginsImportExport’ folder.

When I do File/Export/Trainworks I get a dropdown with two options, one for IGS and one for IA. This doesn’t appear to be what you say I should be finding.

As far as the graphic, I add ‘Transparency’ and the shader name in the text boxes in the materials side bar.

Even after a save, they don’t appear in the properties box, if I look for them.

If I have the wrong file, where is the download at the Amabilis site?

I posted some screeshots over at TrainSim Forum.

If you are using the Trainworks version of 3DC then you can’t add extra plugins so Paul’s latest exporter isn’t currently an option. <!– s:( –><!– s:( –>

I’m useing 3DCPv7

What is Deanville using?

Hi Hank,

I’m using 3DCPro 7.1.2. The RSIGS2.dll is in ..3DC 7PluginsImportExport. Have you restarted 3DC since dropping the plugin into the folder?

Is that version different than 7.1.1.2?

Where did you get 7.1.2?

Should I see this DLL under Options/Plugins?

Did you see anything wrong in those screen shots I posted in TrainSim?

thanks
Hank

Yes I rebooted,

7.1.2 is certainly different than 7.1.1.2 and is at [img:2fk0wry1]http://www.3DC.com/downloads/3DC7120.zip[/img:2fk0wry1]
<!– m –>http://www.amabilis.com/downloads/3DC7120.zip<!– m –>

The new plugin appears under Optionsandgt;Import/Export Plugins As ‘RailSim Geometry – New’

Paul’s exporter doesn’t appear in your screenshot on Train-sim.

I usually use the standard RS export to create a stock *.igs and convert the texture. Then I use Paul’s exporter to produce a new *.igs which i overwrite onto the ‘stock’ *.igs. Then onto the Asset Editor process.

‘Tis likely moving to 7.1.2 will help <!– s:) –><!– s:) –> .

I downloaded 7.1.2

The new export is there.

Updated the tree shape, invoked the export and it said ‘nothing to export.’

What’s that about? It’s the same file that I exported with the 7.1.1.2 version and worked.

What have I missed this time?

Hank

Try selecting the model first.

Things go from bad to worse.

I made a new single face poly for the tree texture. Now I remember why I dislike upgrading, all the things I had set as far as materials go have to be reset and of course, don’t remember what need to be reset.

I loaded the texture panel into the Texture Library, select it and the place to enter those special shaders and transparency don’t show up.

What do I have to set to get those text boxes to appear?

Sorry for all the questions,

Hank
