That Other Simulator(MSFS2002)

I don’t see why you couldn’t write it. I haven’t really looked into it so I couldn’t say for sure.

Richard,

I don’t know if you keep up with MS Flight Simulator 2002, but this past weekend, Microsoft posted another 2 sections of the SDK on the web site. andnbsp; The most interesting part is the Section called MakeMDL. andnbsp; If you refer to the MakeMDL.doc you will find that the included MakeMDL.exe file accepts not only gmax files but also .x files. andnbsp; This means that a developer is not obliged to use gmax but can use 3DC for his(her) work and then export a .x file with subsequent conversion by MakeMDL.exe for use by MSFS2002. andnbsp; The document contains many tables for required part names, animation names, materials, textures. andnbsp; It applies to aircraft and scenery development. andnbsp; Now there’s a huge market you or someone else can help go after with a wizard for 3DC. andnbsp;I have found gmax a pain to use due to its limitations with regard to importing, exporting, printing and feature set so I hope that you can find time to take a look and determine if 3DC’s .x export capability can be made to satisfy MakeMDL.exe requirements.

Best regards,

Charles

That is interesting. I’ll keep it in mind that’s for sure.

The 3DC .x export I am sure would handle it. It is just a matter of creating a Wizard. (~1 week of my time or less). But.. there has to be a promise of an increase in sales. That I am not sure about.

3D Studio Max/gmax is great, but I would agree that it isn’t for everyone.

Would it be possible for me to write a Import/Export MDL Plugin…how much more difficult would it be to write than the ExportASC Plugin which I was able to write with your help and the Visual Basic Forums ?

I was able to use your good ExportX sample as well…but without some code sample to compare for Importing the file format….I might find this difficult ?

The BoB (Battle of Britain) and now the MA (Mig Alley)communities are getting keen on using MSFS Models and developing them andnbsp;for both of the Games <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

Include this on my andquot;Wish Listandquot; anyway <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>
