tga files in 4.24

Yep

that’s it exactly. And yes, its English Windows I’m using. On the Trainsimfiles forum, someone suggested that on upgrading at some time I may not have uninstalled completely. And I think its possible that when I first upgraded to 4.23 I may not have said yes to uninstalling shared components (my inbuilt caution took over) and I read afterwards that I should have done. When I upgraded to 4.24 I did say yes, but have I still got a .dll or two hiding somewhere that is causing problems?

A problem I had with 4.23 and still get with 4.24 is that it won’t let me import a tga file as a texture. It gives me a message that the file may be corrupt. It will then hang for a minute or so and then show a grey square where the ‘mini’ texture image should appear. This is with any tga I try. I use PSP 6 for creating tgas. But, I have even taken tgas from other peoples downloads and tried to load them as a texture, with the same result.
System is an Athlon 1200, 256 mb RAM and GeForce 2 MX.

Can you tell me what version of Windows you are running?

A work-around is to use two separate bitmaps (BMPs). One for the texture and one for the translucency layer. Once you are ready to export to MSTS you can merge these two layers in PSP and save as a Targa file. Then run Makeace on the Targa file.

Hi Richard, I have the same problem.

And I am glad that I am not the only one. (sorry for you). The weird thing is that the TGAs I sent to Richard B. for a test did work well on his machine but not on my desktop and laptop. My last suspicion I had was that it had something to do with the language of my WIN98, but as your name does not sound German, I think this was not the reason.

But despite my first posting regarding this problem, I can’t use neither compressed nor uncompressed TGA files now. When I try to load them, I get the message:

Unable to load texture. The file may be corrupt.

Then the blue status bar is working a while, as if the file is loaded nevertheless and a grey square appears in the texture library window instead of a textured square. When I put my mouse over it, it shows me the path to this TGA file in the status bar.

When I try to select this texture with the mouse, the program freezes for a while, then goes on working. Then I try to use that texture on an object and the object turns to grey.

I’m running Windows 98 Release 2.

I’ve used the two bmp method to create my files so far. I just would have liked to be able to work direct from the tga, but its not a big problem.

On checking other areas of the forum I noticed someone else had the same problem. They got it to work by using compressed tgas. I tried resaving in PSP 6 as a 24 bit compressed file, but it still didn’t work.

Thanks

I had a thought:

1) Uninstal 3DC
2) Delete the 3DC folder from Program Files
3) Reinstall 3DC

I would be curious to see if this helps.

Richard

:-[ andnbsp;Reference the TGA files in version 4.24….I could not get
the software to recognize my TGA file in the apply/paint
material tabs of 3DC Pro….it would say the message
andquot;file appears to be corruptandquot; so I finally had to get around this
by , after exporting the model to MSTS *.S format then going
into the *.S file and finding the reference to the ACE file in
it and editing this entry to show the TGA files ACE file and it
now works the transparency correctly…..is this problem that
seems to be wide spread amongst users going to be fixed in
a upcomming release ?
Other than this problem I think the software is outstanding!!

Thanks

I already tried uninstalling, deleting folder, even erasing entries in Registry, then new installation.

Did this on the desktop and on the laptop. Without result andnbsp;:'(
