Textureing a Terrain Object

Thanks Timo I may try that ;D

Hi does anyone have any idea how best to texture a terrain object? I need a few areas on the texture to be specific.

Any ideas anyone?

Here is one way.

create two bitmaps – one a height map one the texture (keep the height map small (try 50×50))

make your terrain with the height map.

rotate the terrain to -90,0,0

now load your real texture and paint it onto you terrain (use the paint tool from the left set of tools not the right !)

rotate the terrain back to 0,0,0

hope this helps – if it is as clear as mud then let me know and I will try a better description with some pics (but this might take a few days…)

Thanks Alan,

Does anybody else know?

Yeah it may work. andnbsp; Can I create any size texture map?
Do you know

Oh and my terrain was a greyscale hightmap but I needed to edit it a bit back in 3DC. andnbsp; Is there anyway to get a greyscale bitmap from this?

Not sure if you can use any size – have a play and see how it works but I suggest you stick to 128×128, 256×256, 512×512, etc.

I don’t think that there is a direct way to get the height map/grey scale out of 3dc – anyone else know of a way ?

Try to play with fog and lights and then take a snapshot from straight above the terrain.

But to get a good result you should have a HUGE texture map (depending on the size of your terrain), so I suggest you to use some other way. You could for example have own texture file for each texture type, like grass, water and rock and their transistions. Now paint the terrain with these textures and use enough tiling. andnbsp;:)
