Yup. But it would be still nice to have some basic object on object editing and moving tools. Like the moving of an object with using of center or corner or some other commands on another object. Example: take a cube and move it using its lower left corner on another cube using the top right corner of the target cube.

I want to center a torus on a cylinder the way that the center of the torus is in the center of the top face of the cylinder. How can this be done?

I think the difference is that CAD programs are oriented towards this type of work (precision modelling) where 3DC is more of an andquot;Artist’s toolandquot;.

WOW! Thank you but is there really no easier way for this? In AutoCAD I was able to do this with only few commands and it was 100% right. (move center of target primitive on center of the destinations primitive face). It would be nice if this is possible.

I don’t know of an official way – but this should work.
Assuming default directions – you have not rotated the objects and that you have not shifted the ‘centre points’.
The x and z positions of both objects will be the same (found in bottom left of the screen). All you have to do is add half of the cylinders height to the z position of the torus.
So if the cylinder is 2 units tall and its centre position is 1,1,1 (x,y,z) then the torus position needs to be 1,2,1 (half of the y size + y position of the cylinder). This will sit the torus in the top of the cylinder.
I position using the snap to grid on – but you could always enter the positions directly using right click properties.
Hope this helps – in not let me know and I will try again… <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt="" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

I just work with andquot;snap to grid onandquot; and move them in the views – if you scale objects in line with your grid size then they will snap to position 99.9 % of the time. andnbsp;I work with a grid size of 10, interval of 1 and both snaps set to 0.1 (all in tools options)
I know my explanation sounds hard – but with just a little practice it is easy (remember to scale object to snap to interval or you might run into some problems).
Well it works for me <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt="" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

Perhaps in Version 6. But I’m not promising anything.
Someone handy at script writing could probably do this. But it would require selecting two objects which scripts can’t handle. That would mean that you would select one object and the script would find the nearest object and align to it.

I agree these would be nice, maybe not essential, but nice.
V6 maybe ?
