some problems with surface modeling

Okay its decided to displace the surface of the patches now. I think it just needed a restart for that, it figures.

So I’ve got a couple of problems. I started trying to do some surface modeling following the tutorial. However the color of the surface patches will not display in some views, even when the ‘Render Surfaces Solid’ button is clicked. Specifically the perspective and front views. It does display the patch color in the side views.

Also when I brought the model I was working on into the program, it only shows up from one side, and when I rotate it, it dissapears.

And… this is probably something I did/didn’t do. I couldnt get the patches to link. I had the ‘snap to grid’ turned on and got the points to overlap, or so I thought. But when I brought the image into the main program again (out of the surface modeling window), there were gaps between the patches.

If anyone can help me, thanks. I’ll be continuing to look for solutions… -B

Hi and welcome, I think I can help with part of your problem – 3dc, by default, only renders the ‘real side’ of a face, so if you rotate the face to view the back you will see nothing. You can turn on ‘Render Two-Sided Faces’ to view the back face – you will find this option in the tools menu / options / miscellaneous .
Hope this helps ?

I was hoping to have a play with the surface tool but….

anyway there is a plugin that ‘welds points within range’ – maybe this could solve your other problem ?

The surface tool is one that I have hardly used (there is just too much packed into this program) so this is a guess <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>
