Snow please

Have you ever used transparency before (or does the other program support it)? andnbsp;Instead of having solid particles, you could make a snowflake in a paint program, apply an alpha channel to make the background transparent, and then apply that texture to a simple face (or maybe two faces back-to-back), and use these simple two-faced snowflakes for your particles.

Hi there, me again,

After quite some months now, I have been using 3DC for my 3Dobjects. I am very happy the way it works. Even a 3D moron, like me, can acvtually get something together.

But now I want something special, and it is not easy. Good thing this forum is here <!– s:-) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":-)" title="Smile" /><!– s:-) –>

I need some snow, or something that looks like it. I have been looking at the particle thing, but that only works for animation. I don’t really need animation.

What I would like to create is like two cubes of snow, not too thik, that they can move downwards at a slightly different speed. I think that would look somewhat natural.

A solution anyone? PLEASE?

Thanks in advance

Eddy

Hi, thanks for the reply,

So far , what I have come up with, is particles (about 2400) in a block of 1*6*8. I use two behind eachother to get a speed difference. NO, I don’t use the animation in 3DC, I just create the objects for another program, where I make the blocks move.
This far, it is quite well, but the snowflakes are too andquot;solidandquot;. But if I use to much points/surfaces for a particle, the object becomes too large, and the programs, 3DC and HFX, are getting too slow.

If you have ideas, they are very welcome

Kind Regards,

Eddy

My guess would be to use the particle effect also, but I guess I’m confused by what you’re saying. . . andnbsp; You don’t really need animation, but you want your snow to move downwards at slightly different speeds? andnbsp;Unless there’s something I don’t know about, the only way to get anything to move is by using animation. andnbsp; So, you could use several large faces (textured with transparency for the individual snowflakes) positioned perpendicular to the camera, and animate them moving downward at different speeds (slower the further away they are, I think). andnbsp;Or, you could set up a few particle sources, and have lots of small andquot;snowflakeandquot; particles spewing towards the ground.
