Slow response to function changes

I’d suggest trying this:

1) Rename the folder ‘3DC 7.1.2’ in your Documents folder to ‘3DC 7.1.2 Backup’.

2) Run 3DC. You will get some warnings about libraries not being found.

3) Check to see if 3DC responds correctly. If it does then it is something to do with libraries.

4) Delete the newly created ‘3DC 7.1.2’ folder and restore the name of your backup.

This won’t cure anything, but may give some clues as to the cause of the problems.

Recently I have noticed that the time it takes for 3DC to respond to changes in various functions is increasing. This is particularly the case when switching from selecting groups of points to face selection. It can sometimes take up to 30 seconds or more before the program responds. Similarly, switching from the operations tab to the paint tab can take a similar or longer period of time. Its not a critical issue, but just irritating as I twiddle my thumbs waiting for the program to respond. Is this in the nature of the program or can I do something to speed things up?

Have you tried compacting and/or compressing the model, or is the problem with all models including new scenes?

The problem is with all models, including new scenes. It is particularly noticable when switching from an operations function to the paint function (but not the reverse where the response is almost instantaneous) and from the group select to any of the other tools. However switching between any of the other tools is ok.

I’m finding the same issue, especially with the paint function, which I assumed was related to having a large number of textures in the cache.

I was also coming to the conclusion that the number of textures was at least part of the reason for the slow response. But where is the information about the textures kept? I cannot find a cache file with a recognisable name anywhere on my system. It can take ages to delete individual textures (I have more than 40 of them). I would prefer to be able to go to the file and delete textures/library items I no longer need. Also, in which file is the information about items stored in the library kept? Or is this information not contained in a file but in the registry?

I don’t think it can be the number of textures on your system. At least from my understanding of 3DC.

I’m thinking about this one, but I honestly don’t know what could be the cause.

I know graphics card drivers can affect this, so a change in drivers could be the cause of a sudden unexpected slow-down.
