Here is a pic of what I mean. I have made several other parts in different shapes such as this to andquot;testandquot; things out. It would seem that by andquot;stretchingandquot; points to make a part after using extrude a few times on certain faces do I get these shaded faces. The irony is that I have made several parts and models using the same method of making a part and I cannot remember ever having this problem before…I think anyway. I have tried just about everything (tools/plug-ins) to change the integrity of the part to no avail. The part or model itself is intact and per dimension; and using andquot;bogusandquot; textures I can successfully transfer it to Train-Sim using the TS Wizard. I just cannot get these faces to have the same shade.
Thanks!

I looked through the archives for a hint on this problem I have. Didn’t find anything, but then again I might have searched it andquot;wrongandquot;. Anyway…
My problem is that when I make a andquot;cubeandquot; and extrude several times to make a part, I can make the part OK and up to the correct dimensions, however, certain faces are of a different shade…and will not change when texture is applied. Now, I’ve tried optimizing, updating and reducing points/faces functions to no avail. I’ve tried the extrude make funtion, part subtraction, creasing, etc….I still get various shaded faces. I looked in the help part of 3DC, but didn’t find anything (unless I missed it).
When I make the extrude parts of the cube I go inot the andquot;rightandquot; view and move the points to various spots to make up the part. Probably missing something, just don’t know what.
If someone would kindly point me in the right direction, I’d greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

Try moving the lights or adding more.

It looks like you have a couple of significantly distored faces. This is a pretty typical result of being significantly non-planar.
Did you try triangulate-crease? It will almost certainly fix it.
Also, you could try weldingtorange(plug-in)-]optimize.

A snapshot of a wireframe view with the offending faces circled would help me get a better idea as to the cause.
Triangulating the faces that are shaded incorrectly could help. And of course re-creasing (my answer to everything).

No. I tried that too. That was one of the first things I thought might be the problem. I have tried numerous times today to make it work. No go. Thanks anyway.
