Seeking Opinions about 3D programs

The dazzling graphics you mention are down to how good you are at creating your textures in a paint app.
All 3DC does is to display the textures you create, it doesn’t affect thier appearence.

I have older versions of Lightwave and Maya on my HD but still use 3DC 90% of the time.
Richard has managed to keep things reasonably straight forward with 3DC (so far) so it’s much easier to use than any of the high end modelers.

With the high end modelers you need a help file to understand the help file. <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

If you want super looking railway models concentrate on the textures.
Something like this maybe…

This texture set took me around two weeks to create, it’s about 90% complete here, the model was built with 3DC.

Hello;

Some of you are, no doubt, aware of the newest push in train simulators. All of them seem to be going for dazzling graphics. Baking textures is one subject that gets a lot of attention. Blender seems to be on the rise. It is a free program but it lacks fixed scaling, along with other functions.

Those who can afford it, go for 3DS Max, the heavy duty program that costs $3k+ and requires a yearly license renewal.

Gmax is still creaking along–an orphan in the custody of Turbo-Squid.

How does 3DC compare to the others?

I’m interested in hearing what the 3DC crowd thinks about all this.

Thanks for whatever words you care to impart.

Happy Holidays to all!

3DC to me is the best low cost modeler on the market…it cannot really be compared to 3ds max because you get what you pay for…it really depends on what you plan to do with the models…if you plan on making a movie with photo-realistic models then 3dc is not what you need…if you plan on making low poly models for games ect. then it is perfect…i am just a amateur game maker so 3dc and it’s ease of use is just what i need…3dc is capable of doing a lot more than what i use it for but it is the best for the price as far as i know…a lot of people overlook this modeler or just try the demo version (which does not even compare to the pro version) and move on to something else…these people do not know what they have missed….this is just my opinion of the product and i hope it helps in your search for a modeler….

3dc is the only modeler i know of with tools designed just for making trains and train related models…more plugins are added frequently to help in train modeling…pirate
