Hello,
When right-clicking on a face or point (even on a simple scene with 1 cube only), the popup menu is long to show up (something like 3s and CPU reaches 100% just before the menu appears). It is not specific to 665x.
I would like to know if someone else has such problem.
Could you please report on this (indicating what CPU and video card they have and if ATI video card, which Catalyst version).
I am wondering if it could be a video card driver problem. But before changing anything, I would like to hear from other 3DC users.
Thanks
My configuration : XP SP2; 1 GB RAM; DX9 from august 2006; Sempron 2800; Radeon X800XL; Catalyst 6.8
I already have a reply from griffirr (3DC v6652)

I have no problems with the right click pop-up speed. I even did 50 various operations on the cube to try to slow it down. Was still right there. I haven’t add in any plugins yet. This version works well here.

Don’t have a problem with the right click pop up menu…it’s almost instant.
Only with a very large scene with loads of objects/faces do I get any slowdown.
System…
XP SP2
Amd XP 2500+
Radeon 9800 Pro with 128 megs video memory
Catalyst 6.14.10.6542
1 Gig System memory
DX9
My Catalyst drivers are probably not the latest version, unless I have some major problem and the drivers I have are stable I leave things alone. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>
One thing I have noticed with 6.6.5.1 is that the MSN messenger window is a bit slow to move if you try to drag it…I don’t get this with 6.5…However Polybuilder doesn’t have this problem so it must just be a system thing.
All very strange. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>
Sorted the Engineer plugin in 6.5 just by changing the render mode to smooth…thanks.
Still no joy with 6.6.5.1 but I can use 6.5…save the file and load it into 6.6.5.1.
Not quite what I had in mind. <!– s:D –><!– s:D –>

.
It is related to ATI SmartGart.
I’ll try tonight.

The problem occurs when anti-aliasing is ON.
There is a FSAA problem with my video driver ?

Sorry, I meant to answer this yesterday, but got distracted. It’s instantaneous for me also.
I tried it just now it now on an ATI and a NVIDIA based card both running with FSAA on. With NVIDIA the right-click menu is instantaneous, but with ATI it takes a second or two. Both cards are running the latest drivers.
I’m not sure if there is anything I can do about this or not. My first guess would be ‘not’ since it works OK on NVIDIA.

So… I’m going to try other ATI drivers (I hate losing my time with driver change and tests).
I plan a new computer within less than a year (so it’s not going to be soon !) with Intel + Vista, may be I’d better pick a nvidia card at that time.

I tried Catalyst 6.6 and 6.10 : no change.
I think I didn’t notice the problem previously because the resolution was lower (1024×768 on 17′ CRT). Recently I upgraded to 20′ wide LCD (1680×1050).
I’m going to send a feedback to ATI support.

Reply from ATI : install our new Catalyst 6.11
Doesn’t sound too good to me…
I’ll try anyway.

In the past, I always found ATI more reliable. But as of 6.6.5, 3DC is a very different piece of software, so who knows? Maybe NVIDIA is better with 6.6.5.

As expected there is no difference with Catalyst 6.11.

Thanks for the feedback.
I’ll keep Catalyst 6.10 and send a reply to ATI on my submitted ticket (without much hope…).

This is getting worse.
Hope for a solution is becoming dimmer.
I received a new reply from ATI (pre-formatted reply !) about ‘Bios settings play a big part in system performance.’, ‘updating your motherboard chipset drivers to add stability the PC.’, ‘Updated sound card drivers are also important’, ‘changing the DX refreshrate override’, ‘msconfig’
