Indeed! Perhaps Richard might consider an out of the way button or a dropdown for ‘show shortcut keys’ in the next version? Might save the 3DC newbies a little time, as well as the question answerers.

Just a thought.

There is a list of shortcut/keyboard functions within the 3DC help files. Look under, Menus, Toolbars and other functions/Using alternate keyboard functions. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

I am trying to use unwrap/uv textures to color a human model. The face is one object, the back of the head and the rest of the torso is a second.

When I unwrapped the face, everything worked fine, the repainted bitmap fell where I wanted it.

Problem started with the 3D torso. The unwrap showed only the front of the torso, not a full unwrap like the single sided character’s face object. I painted the bit map anyway. Result was the details of the front of the torso also appeared on the back. Not what I wanted.

So, back to the unwrap tutorial (one with the baby) in the 3DC help files. I got to this part:

‘Only those faces that were forward facing were selected. If you had wanted to select all faces, you could have Alt-Shift-Clicked while using the Face Group Selection Tool.

Use the Fill Operation to paint these faces green.’

I selected the faces as instructed, but when I click on the Fill Operation tool, the faces all de-select, so I can’t focus my detail to a single area or to a single side. I’ve tried this several times now. No texture is selected, only a color.

What am I doing wrong? Is there another mode I’m missing somewhere?
Thanks

Hello and welcome to 3DC.
The operation you need to fill the selected faces when unwrapping and ‘masking’ your model is found in your object operations panel. Its the Button with the tipping paint bucket next to the Unwrap selection button. This button will apply the currently selected material/texture to your highlighted faces. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

actually, in looking just slightly closer, the face select tool is not selecting faces, but vertices. The bucket next to the unwrap tool is grayed out for this operation. I could select the faces individually, but I’m already running into graphics adapter problems making such operation impossibly slow.

Group face select selects vertices? Confusion….

SHIFT-click.

Dadgum it!!!

Ok, I think I’ve got it now. Spent half the night on that, I did.

Thanks VF, and thank you for the welcome.

No Problem. Like most programmes, 3DC has its shortcut keys and various combinations of keys to learn.

I can’t for the life of me remember some of the lesser used ones and often have to consult the help pages. <!– s:oops: –><!– s:oops: –>
