Question

Thanks for all the info…but I’m affraid I am one who wants to do alot, but doesnt have the knowledge or experience to acheive the effects i want. I may look for the dogwaffle program, just to see if i can make heads or tails of it, but i think i am alittle out of my eliment. ( actually, because i am not a programmer, i am ALOT out of my eliment)Lately, i have found myself very frustrated trying to learn to use 3DC, and POV, and seem to have to constantly take 5 steps backwards to move ahead 1. I’ll check out the model feedback to see what you’ve done..thanks again

Let’s face it folks, I know absolutely nothing about scripting, but I have a few questions about it and it’s capabilities.

For instance;
If you place a light inside a translucent/transparent object like a sphere, cube, or whatever, would it be possible with the use of a script, to somehow restrict the light to the confines of the object so that the light would not affect other parts of the model/scene?

Thanks in advance for any info,
Les

By the way.. is there a deffinition of quadratic attenuation in the help files? or just attenuation? I’m still experimenting woth lighting and POV and not really sure of the terms for lighting attributes….
Thanks all…. <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

I was wondering the same thing as Les..i placed a light in a model, and it kept lighting the model behind it, and that was in contrast to where the sun was coming from. I will try your suggestion as well. andnbsp;;D

Alex,
Thanks for the info. I’ll try Quadratic Attenuation and see if it does what I’m trying for.
Thanks again,
Les

Alex,
I’m posting a picture in the Model Feedback forum of some samples I did. So far it looks very promising… ;D

Alex,
Thanks but I’m no expert when it comes to PovRay. Sometimes I feel like I’m still on the bottom of the learning curve….hehehe.

Blaydrnnnr,
Experimenting is probably going to be your best bet for getting to understand lighting in PovRay, along with the onboard tutorial. That’s the way I’m doing it also.

I’m currently working on getting to know how to use Project Dogwaffle. It looks as though one might be able to create a semi-tranparent/translucent texture that could be used on a sphere, or maybe a cone to simulate an engine glow, or thrust, that might work in 3DC.

I posted a picture in the model feedback forum showing a lens flare effect placed on a flat surface behind one of my models to simulate leaving hyperspace. The lensflare was done in Dogwaffle and you have the ability to add a glowing effect, so I’m working on getting a gradient texture put together for a glowing engine thrust look.

Wish me luck… <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>
