Problems with extruding

I think I know what the problem is. If you right-click on the extrude button and change the extrude amount to something different (say .2 instead of .5) does the right-click version work?

Richard

In 5.7a I have sometimes problems with extruding. It’s seems a question of luck if a rectangle extrudes correctly or not especially when the rectangle has additional points on one or more sidelines from divisions of other parts of the primitive. Sometimes everything works splendid; on a bad day I have to do extrusions two or three times.
BTW is there a rule how to andquot;trimandquot; the correct way? This is a matter of luck sometimes, too. andnbsp;I found it matters which sequence I use in trimming but found no obvious rule so far. Some trimming of seemingly superficial lines destroys the whole model.

No, rectangles are not distorted. It seems to matter in what sequence I trim not needed lines or points from the rectangle. If I change this sequence suddenly all works well. But I found no rule up to now.

If a rectangle (or any face) is significantly distorted you can get some odd extrude directions. Is this the case?

Richard

It really does depend on how much a face is distorted. I think it may use only one facet of a face (three points) to decide on direction.

I’ll have a look at this to see if anything can be done to improve the direction it extrudes.

Richard

Then how come that I sometimes get extrusions nearly in the opposite direction of where the face of the rectangle is looking? Or extrusions that seem to move the marked face along one coordinate. I’ll post an example if and when it happens again.

That sounds pretty weird. But perhaps not. If you have two edges that when combined create a straight line (or something close to it) you could get a very strange extrusion.

Richard

Have you tried the andquot;officialandquot; 5.7a yet? ([img:1elk830s]http://www.amabilis.com/cgi-bin/YaBB/YaBB.cgi?board=3DCProGeneral;action=display;num=1027790918[/img:1elk830s]

It happened again!
Left and right should look the same, a protruding roof. I did exactly the same for both sides but the left side extruded strange. I can stop this by changing the sequence of trimming but it is a trial and error process I didn’t find the one and only correct sequence.

Nothings happen, no error message or something..
Maybe a fault andnbsp;on my systeem ???

In what way does it not work? Does it produce an error or does it put a new layer on the object with no extrusion?

Richard

I have somthing strange ..
I work now for with the 7.a version ..but for somereason the extrude dont works anymore..
I have unstall it.. an install it again..
Now I work with andnbsp;the Windows XP home version andnbsp;
On this moment I use the chamfer tool to extrude..
If someone havea suggestion??

If you select a face and then right click on the Extrude operation button does the options window appear? Also, does it make a difference if you right click and select andquot;extrudeandquot; or click the actual Extrude operation button.

Richard

Dear Richard,
When I use the button option its works ,but the right mouse button its doe nothings. I have this probleme only with the extrude option..
