Looks good – but I think you would of found it easier to use the lathe option andnbsp;
Three ideas for you to play with re. texture
1/ load the texture from 3DCs texture folder into a paint package and try to darken it there ?
2/ in 3DC select your texture and then add a darker colour over it, rather then leave it white ?
3/ use one of the pov textures and raytrace your model ?

Hi, gang. I thought I’d get you professional 3D modelers’ opinion on one of my learning projects. One of the best ways to practice in 3D, in my opinion, is to copy a real life object. Below is a wooden candle holder that stands about 7 andquot; tall. The real object is on the left and my copy of it in 3DC is on the right.
It has 734 faces and 697 points. I need to find a darker wood grain texture for it. I started with a cylinder primitive and subtracted various torus and other cylinder primitives from it. It was fun watching it take shape and comparing it with the original. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>
I’m also working on several train models but am a long way off towards completing them.
Thanks. andnbsp;

Les,
Thanks. I’ll check out the POV site. 8 Megs, huh? It looks like I picked a bad week to quit my broadband provider! andnbsp; andnbsp;

Hi, Alan. I haven’t used the lathe tool yet. I’ll do my model again with it and see how it goes.
I’ll try your texture suggestions too, although #3 I’m totally lost about. I’ve heard the phrases andquot;povandquot; and andquot;raytraceandquot; but have no idea what they mean. Are they available in 3DC? Or is there another software program I need to do those things?
Thanks for the feedback! andnbsp;

Andrew,
I think you did a fantastic job on the candle holder…
Darker colored textures can be done by any of the methods Alan mentions above and they all will or should work well.
PovRay is a free raytracing software available at [img:t6vvyex8]http://www.povray.org[/img:t6vvyex8]

andnbsp;and has lots and lots of predefined textures that can be used. If you have not used it before, youre lucky because it just recently progressed from Beta to Final release. It’s about an 8mgb download and worth the time it takes. Enjoy.. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>
