In 3DC7 I selected the shape, chose the shift tool in the right hand tool bar, held down the control key and moved my axis.
I cannot do this in 3DC8 and its a critically important funtion in some cases. Please tell me how I can do it.
Thanks, Mike.

Hi Mike,
Hold down the Alt key, instead of the control key.

Thanks Gerrit.
Maybe my 3DC8 is bugged. I hold down the alt key and it does move the axis, trouble is the axis moves uncontrollably along the z axis in one direction, thats it! The xyz constraints do not apply.
I’ll try a reinstall, if that doesn’t work its back to Amablis <!– s:( –><!– s:( –>

Hi Mike,
Make sure you are in ‘Standard coordinate’ mode.
If not, wierd things are happening.

I’m having a problem moving the axis too. Even though after selecting object, then pressing the shift tool and holding down ALT the object moves, not the axis. Using V 8.2.5 (1086). I have tried with V 8.2.6 but still have the problem.

Hi Jim,
Did you try making the axis visible via the switch in the command bar – then grabbing the axis – not the object – and moving it instead ???

Scott

Just tried that and nothing happened holding down control or shift, holding down alt just moved a whole group of objects. Must have spent over an hour trying various ways to move an axis without any success. Can’t wait for the day when V8 is bug free, that’s if it ever comes <!– s:( –><!– s:( –> . Thanks for trying to help Scott

If there are more then one objects in your group, which pivot you want to move, right-click on one of the objects and "select group members".
Your objects in the group should now al be translucent.
Now select the shift-tool on the right hand toolbar.
Move the mouse cursor over one of the objects, hold down the alt key and left mouse button and drag the pivot down.
Hold down the alt key first and then left click, otherwise your selection is gone.
That should work, works for me here to.

Hi Jim,
Yeah – as usual – Gerrit seems to have the right answer…

Hi Gerrit,
Thanks once again – sir – if it wasn’t for your help – I’d still be trying to figure out the new export process with version 8…
All,

Yeah – I know Richard has other things going on – but – from where I sit 3DC8 really needs some serious help… This is Amabilis’s ONLY product now and I seem unable to complete a model with it… I’d hate to see the total number of hours I’ve spent debugging issues in it… Richard hasn’t been really active since the beginning of March and the bug list is getting quite long… While Paul isn’t even associated with Amabilis – his plug-ins are an ESSENTIAL part of 3DC and need some work too… His last post was that he was really busy on other issues – understandably so – and – has been MIA ever since…
The frustrating part for me is not knowing WHEN Richard plans on working the bugs again… I have three projects now sitting at roadblocks in 3DC8… I don’t know if I should strart trying to come up with work arounds – really give a full effort to porting my work back to 3DC7 – wait another week in hopes for a resolution for some of the bugs – or LOL – shelve modeling altogether for now to reduce my frustration with 3DC8…
Just my 2 cents…

That does not solve my problem. I want to move the axis of one individual object within a group. I have made the object a temporary child but the axis is locked solid. Even tried ungrouping but get the same result

You can’t move the axis of a single shape in a group. It has to change for all of them because the are grouped together.
Probably what you want is:
1) Select the "Shift" tool
2) Right-click on one of the members of the group and choose "Select-Group Members"
3) Alt-drag one of the shapes in the group

I usually don’t comment on these sorts of things, because I have learned in the past that it is a bad idea. But, my two cents on verson 8 vs version 7: Generally, when a person has a problem with version 8, they assume it is a bug, and don’t assume so with version 7. Some of this can be attributed to some differences in user interface between the two versions. I often get reports of bugs that turn out not to be.
