Pivot points for objects

Shift Centre on Selection is in my plugin pack.
(It’s actually an Operation)

Select an object or one or more faces, edges or points and it will move the origin to the centre (averaged)

The default position of pivot point is at the center of a 3D object. For example, the pivot point for a 3D box that is 1 unit by 1 unit by 1 unit is at 0.5 unit, 0.5 unit, and 0.5 unit. When I drag the 3D box from the Primitives panel to the scene, the bottom of the 3D box sits on top of the 2D grid (floor) so the pivot point is 0.5 unit above the grid. If I want to create a 3D model of a building, I want the pivot point to be on the bottom of the 3D box instead of at the center of the 3D box. This would make operations and tools easier to use instead of having to move the bottom of 3D box to the 2D grid after using operations and tools. Can this be added to the next version of 3DC?

That’s precisely why the plugin ‘shift centre on selection’ was created by Paul. Now, I personally prefer the default center axis for what I work on and many of my objects are best suited to being ‘centerable’. The plugin is what you want to be using…

You select a bottom face (for example), run the plugin and you are done.
