Performance question

I’ve found transparency seems to have less of a framerate hit than polygons, so I use it whenever I can. I also tend to use 512 by 512 textures all the time and performance seems ok.

The trouble is you can test a model on a bit of route with little scenery and all seems ok. But run it through a forest and the combination of your model and all those trees then lowers the frame rate right down!

What has more impact on frame rates: use transparency or increased polycount?

Btw is it better to use one bigger texture or a couple of smaller textures with one model?

(I know it’s slightly off topic but this is a formidable knowledge center)
