PC question

I am tempted to say ‘go for the ram’ as both processors
are probably in-excess to your needs – but then again do you need more than 512mb of ram ?

Another unhelpful answer from Alan andnbsp;:-[

(I wish I could have either system !!)

Which is better: More RAM or a faster processor.

With the about the same amount of money I can choose between 512 MB RAM and an Athlon 2000+ or 1024 MB RAM and an Athlon 1900+. Which is better?

Hi,

I agree with Alan, 5% increase in CPU power is not
so meaningful, but having double amount of memory
makes some projects feasible, which would be
impossible otherwise. Think about it: if you’re for
example having 3DC open, rendering with
Povray and in the same time keeping decent paint
program open for texturing, you might need as much
as possible physical memory to keep operations swift.
That way you can prevent continuos swapping etc. …

Argh, my English is deteriorating… I try my best,
but I’m native Finnish speaker… andnbsp;:D

Yes. I’m aware of this therefore I considered to buy WIN XP Pro for that machine.

Keep in mind that the operating system you use can determine how useful that extra ram is.

NT and W2K and XP are much better at properly utilizing that extra RAM than say w98se is. andnbsp; This has been my experience, anyway.

Pete

I believe 1024 MB will help with combined landscape and character rendering render.

@Alan
; In Switzerland is it no longer possible to buy processors below 1000 MHz.
