Paint Brush Sparkles (Awaiting Input)

Hi Richard,

Been out of touch for a while – let me see if I can find a copy with the problem – I’ve more than 100 different saved versions since I started this project…

Regards,
Scott

Testing out the paint brush… If the object is untextured to start with and you use the paint brush to texture it – you get sparkles showing on the absolute edges… Not very obvious but there just the same… If I use the paint brush ‘operation’ with cropping the same texture – no sparkles on the edges…

Scott

Is this something you see during the painting, or after?

Could you exapand on your explanation? Thanks.

Hi Richard,

Below is an example of the issue… The ‘Paint Brush’ tool on the right hand side of the screen – gives me this effect much of the time I use it… I am normally cropping a section of a BMP/TGA when this happens… The same white edges appear in MSTS after the export as well…

If I texture the same area – without moving the cropped section – using the ‘Apply Material to Selection’ operation on the operation palette (left side) – it corrects the problem…

Also – this issue is not unique to the new release – the older versions did it as well…

Ok, I have a bit of an idea now as to what is happening. I’ll have to think about this one.

If you choose the ‘Edit using Face Coordinates’ mode and then apply using the ‘Material’ operation do you get a different result than using the Paint Tool?

Have you zoomed at the part in each case to see if you can see what the difference is? Maybe you could post pictures of each and I’ll be able to see what is happening.

Hi Richard,

Yes – selecting ‘edit using face coordinates’ the apply ‘Material’ operation resolves the issue for me… The ‘Paint Tool’ is the only thing that gives me a problem…

Did I answer your question ???

Scott

Hi Richard,

Just a little more information… On the shapes with the sparkles initially textured with the paint tool – even UV remapping didn’t fix the issue… I had to redo all the surfaces using the ‘Material’ operation to clear the problem…

Scott

It’s very strange that ‘edit using face coordinates’ and applying the material operation produced a different result.

Is it possible for you to try this again, showing a close up picture of the part with the two different methods? I might be able to figure it out then.

I still can’t reproduce this, but I found some clues that might indicate why there is a problem. I’m going to make ‘face paint’ work exactly the same as the material operation with ‘edit using face coordinates’.

I’ve tried everything I can imagine to reproduce this.

Can you send me a sample model, with textures showing the problem? (<!– e –>support2@amabilis.com<!– e –>)
