Official 3DC Pro Support for Kuju’s Rail Simulator

This would be a *huge* plus as far as I’m concerned. I have many, many things in TSM I’d love to convert over to .3dc

It’s official, 3DC Pro will be supporting Kuju’s upcoming Rail Simulator.

Kuju Press Release

This is a welcome announcement that has ended speculation as to which of the existing 3D packages that supported MSTS would move on to KRS….and its not very much of a surprise.

All we need to know now is how the plug-in will be supplied….as a free download to one of the existing versions (Pro or Plus), or as part of a future upgrade, for which there will be an upgrade cost.

Doug

The Kuju Rail Simulator exporter will be included in 3DC Pro 7.0 which will sell for $69.95. The upgrade cost from previous versions will be $34.95, but many people currently on version 6.5 now will get a free upgrade. Anyone who purchased 3DC Pro April 21st, 2005 or later will get a free upgrade.

I’m also looking at writing an importer for TSM models for those who want to export their TSM models to Kuju Rail Simulator. But, that will be dependent on the amount of demand there is for such a thing. A ‘competitor upgrade’ for TSM owners may also be a possibility. I’m still thinking about that.

Richard

This is welcome news. The Railroad Simulator scene is DYING to have a new updated SIM and now that TSM and GMAX are basically ‘forgotten orphans’ this means that 3DC has got a chance to be the shining star of the hobbyist add-on development toolset.

I’m assuming that KUJU has not pulled the plug on 3DS MAX type support, so the high end developers can still create products.

Definitely welcome news.

3DC currently supports most of the train sims out there:
MSTS
TRS
BVE
RAIL3D (soon)
KRS (future)

any others????

There are actually quite a few updates I would like to see made to the MSTS export option <!– s;) –><!– s;) –>
Environment maps and specular bump maps are now possible.

(This is a bit overdone to illustrate the effect)

The limitation of one primitive state to one vertex state could also be improved.
Perhaps I’ll have a go when I get a spare couple of days <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

Certainly great news as far as 3DC is concerned, since the future now is that we may never see the Train Master Train Simulator at all.

Looks like Kuju’s product will be the only way to go now.

Lets just hope KUJU doesn’t get derailed.
