Novawar 2

Hey Werty,
Just finished looking at your screenshots. They all look great. The only thing I see missing is a squadron of my fighters patrolling the sector <!– s:D –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!– s:D –>….just kidding. Everything you’ve done is excellent work. Keep it up and good luck with the game.

Les

I thought I’d share some screenshots from my game project with you, my fellow 3DC users. The models in this game were made with 3DC but I used Ultimate Unwrap 3d for texturing.

The game will be a hybrid between a space combat sim and real-time strategy. You can pilot every ship in the game, mine resources from asteroids and use them to build new buildings and ships. The game is based in an asteroid field. You can command your fleet from a battlezone/operation flashpoint -type command interface (function keys select ships/squads and number keys issue commands) or from a homeworld -type command screen. There will be ships ranging from small shuttles to large battleships. You can also actually dock on space stations and buildings constructed on asteroids by flying inside them, your ship won’t just simply disappear when docked like in most games. The game will feature both a single player campaing with a strong storyline and different multiplayer modes. The single player campaings can also be played co-operatively in multiplayer.

Here are the screenshots:

There are currently four members in our team, 2 artists and 2 programmers, and we’ve been working on this for about four years now. We are going to release the game as either retail or shareware at some point. No-one knows when though, this is just a hobby for now.

VERY nice screenshots and textures <!– s:D –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!– s:D –>
Which language are you coding the game with, are you using a lightmapper at all.?
Will you be modelling any of the ship interiors?

Nice work all round.

I don’t know much about programming since I’m one of the artists but we’re using C++. We haven’t put much effort into graphics yet but we do have some sort of light maps. Basically it’s just a second texture that has 100 ambient and 1 diffuse. By using alpha-channel transparency png-textures we can change the brightness of the light map.

If by ship interiors you mean hangars and such then yes, ship interiors will be modelled. Bridges and cockpits won’t be modelled.

Really liked the screen shots…excellent textures and models….Nice work!

Thank you for the positive feedback. I’ve really tried to put some effort into this. You should have seen the first models and textures I made. They give me the shivers. I had no experience in 3d modelling and texturing what so ever when we started this project. Now I’m beginning to be quite happy with the results I get. There’s still a lot to learn for me though.

If anyone has any questions about the game I’ll be happy to answer.

Thats makes both of us!!

Here’s another screenshot of a ship that I made last night. Used a photograph taken with my digital camera as the base texture.

Real nice model ya got there. Keep up the good work!

I’ve posted a few more images in gamedev.net’s image of the day area if anyone’s interested. You can see the image on the main page on the right. <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

We made a little improvement to the explosion engine of the game. Parts of the explosions aren’t affected by additive blending and this enables us to add debris and smoke to the explosions.
