Not very happy

Thanks you people : im am ‘happy’ : I am not
alone with difficulties with RailSimulator creations.
But ‘peu a peu’ we will find our way !
I must say that Amabilis has made a lot for export to RailSimulator. I am in that way very happy with 3DC. But when I see that Kuju is using 3dsmax for their examples ! (3dsmax= 3495.- $ ! a little expensive for my hobby !)

Hi,
It’s official, 3DC Pro will be supporting Kuju’s upcoming Rail Simulator.

Has been written at that time…

But today you still had to search day after day how to export a simple building, with textures, with night textures, LOD, etc.

Why is no more support ?
It should be so simple to give a simple example
but complet from exporting with textures and hierarchy, node names in 3DC, etc. to THE END in Kuju RailSim (blueprints, names, etc.)

It’s official, 3DC Pro will be supporting Kuju’s upcoming Rail Simulator.

But always very complicated to do simple things !
(sorry I am a bit disapointed about all those softwares) but I hope tomorrow will be better…

Have a look at these.

Thanks kevm
I have seen those thread.
No problem for the first one (but a little
to simple : no light at night, no animation, etc.)
And the second one is working with G-max and
not with 3DC !

My honest opinion is that Rail Simulator is just difficult to create models for. This is evidenced by the fact that RSderek had to write a 3DS Max tutorial on ‘How to get a simple object into RS form start to finish’ despite the fact that the documentation for RS is written entirely for 3DS Max.

Yes, I absolutely could do more to make things easier. Unfortunatley, I’m very limited in the time I have available. I have to support the entire 3DC product, not just an exporter. I’ve been relying on others to assist with this part. I’ve been hoping that it has been adequate. But, perhaps not it seems.

Whilst I agree that Rail Simulator may not be the easiest simulator to build models for, it is possible with some perseverance.
I have used 3DC to build scenic models in RS with night lighting and shadows. I have also built semaphore signals which include night lighting and animations. Others have built locos. All of which are available through UK Train Sim and other similar sites.
Whilst modelling for RS is very daunting to start, once you get the hand of the principles it is possible to acheive far more realistic and detailed models than in MSTS for example. However, this ability to be more realistic and detailed comes at the price of it being a more complex program to model for!

It is still ‘early days’ and we are all still finding out what RS is cabable of and how to acheive it. I suspect that once people become more confident in their modelling a few tutorials will emerge.

Mark Brinton

Richard, I’d agree with Mark and have to say that it’s perfectly possible to make models for RailSimulator. Certainly you have to put a little more effort in then you would with MSTS, but to be honest, it’s certainly no more difficult then making for Trainz. In fact, i’d say it is actually quite a bit easier.

The much better appearance of the finshed models in Railsimulator, when compared to MSTS or trainz, certainly make the extra effort worthwhile.
Somehow, I can’t see MSTS2 being any easier.

A tutorial is being compliled by Richard Scott and myself. Hopefully, this may help people (it is loco orientated, though)

Cheers,
Kevin

Honestly, I don’t mean to be critical of Rail Simulator (other than a couple bugs that are driving me crazy – and the fact that I still haven’t received information on the parameters for the shaders). It clearly is a leap forward, but at a cost in development time. And, yes, it is still early. It may not seem that way since it’s been out for six months or so, but it really is compared to how long MSTS has been out.

Based on FSX and a bit of inside info…

TS2 will not be much easier in terms of modelling – there will be more material options than RS – but the process of getting it into the sim will be far better understood.

It will probably be simpler in the long term.

This is very welcome news Paul.

My frustrations with RS have me taking a long break…
