nighttextures for automobiles

I agree with Ian, and his technique is the same as the one I use. andnbsp;I think it looks pretty good, even without anything lit up around it. andnbsp; If you really look when you’re driving at night, most of the time for fairly distant vehicles you can’t see what the headlights light up anyway. andnbsp; Also, even though there is no way to animate it or change it for day/night, it still looks appropriate in the daytime.

The nighttextures for automobiles don’t seem to work like those for buildings. Maybe there is a way to animate headlights (change or invert textures) triggered by change of daytime? Any other suggestions?

I tried this once but was not very pleased with the daytime aspect of the headlights. Maybe I have to use a better texture and try it again. Thanks anyway!

Road vehicles for MSTS don’t handle animation or alternative textures. The way I add lights to mine is to add small faces where the lights are, and texture them with a ‘specular’ value of 0 (ie alphabright or glow-in-the-dark). The rest of the vehicle is textured with ‘specular’ 1.

These lights obviously don’t light up anything else. The supplied bus seems to have a face at road level in front of the bus, with a lights-on-the-road sort of texture, but because of the uneven road laying it seems to be underneath the road most of the time.
