New question: copying and pasting to same point

I told you … you’ll love this tool andnbsp;;D ;D ;D

Jan

Is it possible to copy and paste an item to where the item was copied from? From there I could use the constraining buttons to move the object which is typically in line with the copied object. For structures this is a great asset since things like windows and doors are usually at the same level and such. Thanks!

Clone is all I need when I’m doing repetetive work like Handrail Stanchions…

What’s really nice is the ability to not only shift X,Y,Z andnbsp;but Rotate X,Y,Z as well.

Rich,

you can select them in a hierarchy or group and then perform the clone operation on the group. That will make sure all objects are copied as one.
get back to your windows …
– Make one window
– Clone it 5 times to have a row of windows
– group all five windows
– clone the group up a couple of meters
– you now have two floors with windows spaced equally
– repeat as necessary… the sky is the limit

Jan

Hey thanks Smurf! That sounds really great! Appreciate the information. <!– s:-) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":-)" title="Smile" /><!– s:-) –>

Oops! I hate the post button to quick. Is there a way to select those cloned objects in mass say to move them down a few feet but spaced the same? Thanks again!

Rich,

in that case I use the andquot;Cloneandquot; function. This copies the selection x number of times (could be one or more) along a distance (x, y and z distance) you specify. In case of the windows for example you’ll do the following:
– select the window
– right click on the andquot;Cloneandquot; icon in the right toolbar (all the way at the bottom)
– select the options (copies: 4, x: 2.0, y:0, z:0)
– click on the andquot;Cloneandquot; icon to create 5 windows spaced exactly 2 meters apart along the x axis

The Clone function is a cool feature I use a lot for repeating, geometrically correct spacing (e.g. seats in a passenger car or supports along a freight car’s side)

Have fun

Okay, I finally gave the cloning operation a try and let me say… WOW! What a neat tool! First I gave the clone operands nothing but zero’s so I could place a window close by. Nothing to it. Then I got fancy and thought I would try placing a window on the other side of the building, rotated properly (180 degrees) and pressed the button. Another Zowee! I only needed a couple of windows on this building but placing windows which was always a tedious chore before is sweet in 3dC. Very nice! Thanks y’all!
