If I make something I think I will re-use in a nother project later I do two things.
1) Export the selected object to a file. (right click option)
2) Add it to the object library or maybe make a new object library if I don’t want it in the one I’m currently using.
In my case, I always have a new object library for each new project. I then import the re-usable objects I want into the library.
When I revisit the project later… i make sure I open the object library from the project folder and I have everything I need.
(I do the same with material libraries)

If the item is likely to be used in several models, you might want to save it as a 3DC Object (a library object). Right click the object on the hierachy tree and select ‘Export Selection’, ‘3DC Object (.3do)’.
Then you can open the ‘Component Panel’ and load the object into the ‘Object Library’. Then it can be dragged and dropped into any model scene.
