Need advice on how to make two loco parts.

Here’s another way to try using a script I had lying around. Reference the attached image:

– drop a cylinder onto the scene, scale it to the desired dimensions and remove the bottom face (see left side of image)

– connect points on top face with edges aligned to Z (see middle of image)

– select the disk and apply the ‘Sag-it.cs’ script available at [img:29yz48pv]http://home.comcast.net/~deanville/Files/Sag-it.zip[/img:29yz48pv]

(see right side of image)

The script bends the selected object about an imaginary cylinder which is aligned along the Z axis. Rotate the final object to the desired orientation.

How can I make a builders plate by bending a disc to fit against a smoke box?. Only good one I have made so far is by using object subtraction from the side of a small cylinder, but there has to be a better way. Have been trying with the bend operation, and by dragging top and bottom selected points, but not getting anywhere.

Also need to make a bell hanger, or support, or what ever it is called. Made a bell using the lathe tool (looks pretty good too), but can’t figure out how to make the support for it.

Using 6.6.1.0 Pro

Any help appreciated, Bill

How about a cylinder slightly larger than the smoke box with a transparent texture (except for the builders plate)?

For the bell hanger, I’ve also used transparent textures on a two-sided flat. This is OK except for up-close views. for a modeled bell hanger, using an extruded cross section is the easiest I can think of.

would pipe builder work for the bell hanger? (I’m nt sure what one looks like)

Stationmaster – Using a cylinder for the Builders plate sounds good and I will give it a try. I agree that the extruded cross section is probably the best approach for the bell hanger. I assume you would do the whole thing using the Extrude Tool?

Paul – Don’t think Pipe Bender would work because the material cross section should be a rounded rectangle (oval), not round. Building it with Pipe Builder and then extruding it to give a more rectangular cross section might work. Not sure how to do it but will play with it.

The hanger is like a horse shoe with the open part up and the bell sitting in the opening. You are going to have to make one when you build that USRA switcher. <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

Thanks for the input guys.

I posted a new version of the pipe builder on this forum recently that allows oval sections and can add an offset to rotate the oval.
That should help.

It will be in the plugins or MSTS forums somewhere.
