MSTS to RS

Asea looks like on the picture now:

Hi,
I got from my friend *.3ds file for [img:assceskv]http://users.atw.hu/ferito-msts/hz6111_024.html[/img:assceskv]
EMU

EMU was made for MSTS.

1. Why is the model dark?

[img:assceskv]http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/6286/6111zi4.jpg[/img:assceskv]

2. There was a problem in the beginning. I used Train Simulator Wizard to export this model. If I export it as Electric Engine (Engine Blueprint) in Asset editor I can’t see anything and when I export it in RS I can’t see it also. If I export it as Scenery Vehicle (Scenery Blueprint) then I can see it in Asset Editor and in Rs.

[img:assceskv]http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/8862/scenaryvehicleww2.jpg[/img:assceskv]

What’s the problem? Is it 3DC or Asset Editor? I also tried that with a very simple model made of Primitives Parts. The result was the same.

The model is no more dark. I’m solved it. The problem was in color that was dark green instead white and setup of Diffuse, Ambient, Specular and Transluscent that was wrong to:

[img:13jecw9k]http://img129.imageshack.us/img129/116/emugj2.jpg[/img:13jecw9k]

However, the problem 2 still exists.

I begun to create the model electric loco…

[img:13jecw9k]http://img396.imageshack.us/img396/1989/asea6111qp5.jpg[/img:13jecw9k]

…but I stopped. Why? If I can not export the finished model, why I continued to do anything? It looks very discouraging.
I have used days and hours to read and I didn’t find out in many forums why I may export the train from 3DC and when I put this loco in RS I can’t see it. I like this train and I really care about that, because the train drive in Croatia. Can you help me and tell me what I do wrong?

Vlado

Hello,

I am fighting a similar battle with RS at the moment. However I seem to have found a way to move one step further. My suggestion to you would be to use the ‘EXPORT –andgt; TRAINWORKS –andgt; Rail Sim Geometry Format’ exporter from 3DC’s FILE menu, instead of the Trainworks Plug-In. This way I have been able to successfully export any given model to the game.

The problem still remains, though, that you need to set up the complete blueprint of the engine (which, in return, shifts the ‘battleground’ from 3DC to the Asset Editor of KRS, which is kind of black magic for me.) But at least you are now able to export the IGS and its ACE textures from your Developer’s folder into your Assets folder, where you could also try to include them in a clone of one of the default engines or rolling stock, if you want to avoid setting up an entirely new blueprint.

This is so far the only method I know of. If there are other or better possibilities, I would be eager to learn about them!

Cheers!
Michael

PS: Your engine’s cab looks brilliant! The level of detail is already very high, I hope you can find a way to get it to run eventually.

EDIT: PPS
If a model does not show up in RS after exporting it, it might be due to a naming error in one of the model’s parts.

From what I’ve read elsewhere in this forum, the latest beta version of 3DC has a much improved TrainsimWizard, which will assist you very much in exactly this step, naming all parts.

I solved the problem of exports. Works in both cases. As a plugin and as export *. igs. Tutorial by Kevin Martin and Richard Scott has helped me much.

This is the part of tutorial:

‘Firstly you need to set up a correctly named set of folders in the source directory. The easiest way of doing this is to copy the developer folder set and rename it from developer to your own name .
The next thing depends on what sort of model you exporting from 3DC. If, for example, you are exporting a steam loco called (for the sake of this document ) tankloco, then look in the addonrail vehiclessteam folder for a folder called ‘Example’-. Rename this to ‘tankloco’-.
Go through all the folders in the renamed tankloco folder and alter all references of example to tankloco.
[b:2zf7jy9o]Using Notepad2’s find and replace option, open every .xml file in the tankloco folder and rename every occurrence of example to tankloco and developer to whatever name you had given the main folder in the source directory.[/b:2zf7jy9o]’

Here are results:

There is no pantograph. I tried and I’m not successful…. Why do I lose bogie and wheels when I add the pantograph?
Is the problem in hierarchy? Can someone show me an image so I can see how the hierarchy looks with the pantograph?

I’m import pantograph (with hiearchy) from RS simple eletric loco and finaly I export (export-andgt;trainworks) my simple model successful.
Yes, just like you see, I exported six objects of the same name – object. See the picture under.

[img:2rridx0g]http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/5669/hijerarhijazapantografsh7.png[/img:2rridx0g]

However, when I tried to do the second time, I could not anymore. I received a message ‘Object must have unique name …’ After I used plug in that solves this problem I could not see anymore properly this model in RS. After this, I am totally confused because the first time I didn’t needed plug in for solved the problem about unique name.

I was little wrong. The ‘Create unique names’ must be used.
Finaly, I discovered how to put pantograph without any other problems. See the pictures under.

The issues? Issues are always there. Of course, it needs a lot of time. Yes, it’s about countries of ex-YU. This is [img:31wtzhw4]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/index.html?curid=14235623[/img:31wtzhw4]
ASEA 1141
.

P.S. One train, I have almost finished (early beta) and can be [img:31wtzhw4]http://railsim.banal.net/catalog/pages/Croatia-Electric.html[/img:31wtzhw4]

and drive.

Sorry for my english.

I already have the EMU I saw it on the UKTS forum, it looks brilliant!

Cheers, Jack
