MSTS Support

Unfortunately, I don’t know too much about the internal workings of the S file. Someone I know who seems to know a bit more said this:

[i:2rhugkwo] Each .s file has a ‘matrices’ section which outlines the subobjects used
including its part name, material, and pivot point. Indexes are implied by
the order they’re presented.

Then, in each LOD ‘distance_level’ section is a ‘sub_object’ section for each part, beginning with the root part. MSTS then decides which ‘sub_objects’ are rendered and which are ignored, such as on Signal shapes. This is determined by the related ‘matrices’ section.[/i:2rhugkwo]

Maybe it means something to you.

I know the GMAX has the ability to make the correct export. I used it until 3DCP could do the same thing.

Way back in 2001, Conn Connolly found a way to actually edit the unicode file to get the desired effect, but haven’t heard from him in eons. Maybe the hint above is the feature is linked to LOD’s. However, I never set LOD’s for signals.

Hank

Hi,

Is there still support for 3DC Pro 7v MSTS features?

Haven’t gotten a response to this:

I brought the signal export problem to the attention of tech support months and months ago and it doesn’t seem to have been fixed.

I create MSTS signal systems for freeware and payware distributions.

I have version 7x, but any edition after 6x is useless to me until this is fixed.

Best regards,
Hank

The problem is that it’s difficult to determine exactly what the problem is. It seems to me from looking at things that I am doing it right. But, there must be some subtlety in the format I am missing.

Hi, Richard

Is there any way to extract the part in V6x that seems to be able to do it OK to create an adon module for V7?

I can do the testing for you.

Hank

I’ll have to think about it. An MSTS signal exporter, in effect.
