MSTS Objects bright at night with 4.24

For MSTS it does not matter, as for MSTS it is either ‘on’ or ‘off’. 3DC sets it to ‘off’ if the value of ‘specular’ is set to ‘0’, and sets it to ‘on’ for any other value you put in there. I just use the values ‘0’ and ‘1’.

I also set the value for ‘Ambient’ to ’20’ and leave it there.

The values used for ‘Translucent’ are also important when you start playing with transparency and translucency. Look at the MSTS Pro Tutorial in the 3DC help and other posts here for more details.

I finally got around to exporting a few new models to MSTS. They appear very bright by andquot;dayandquot; and stay bright at andquot;nightandquot;. I have exported models made with 4.23 and earlier and did not have this problem. Is there a setting I’ve missed? Is there a cure for existing files without retexturing the model?

Thanks in advance!

You probably forgot to set the material andquot;specularityandquot; setting to non-zero. I’ve done this before a few times.

As for fixing it without retexturing, I don’t [i:1gl8eptc]think[/i:1gl8eptc] there’s a way to do it, but there are a lot of the operation adjustment things that I just don’t quite get yet. What I usually do when this happens to me is change the specularity and then retexture.

If you can fix this without retexturing, I hope someone tells us how, because I’d really like to know, too! <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

Richard and troub, thanks to you both! I’ll try the material editor. Any suggestions for a reasonable value for specularity?

The material editor script will allow you to do this without retexturing. I think it is part of 4.24 but if not it is here: [img:1490lzds]http&#58;//www&#46;amabilis&#46;com/mediadownloads&#46;htm[/img:1490lzds]

. You have to select the faces you want to change before running the script – usually by ctrl-alt-selecting in face/point mode.

Thanks for the info. I used the material editor to change specularity to andquot;1andquot; and set ambient to andquot;20andquot;. The models now look right day and night.
