more wheels

As I mentioned above I’ve been there but this doesn’t work.

Anyone else have any suggestions? That’s the only one that I know of.

Richard

I’ve just had a try at animating a 6 wheeled bogie using the christrains method and I’ve had the same problem. Only the first 2 wheels animate. I,ve checked the ordering in the .s file and all looks correct.
I have come up with a work-around whilst not very elegant does seem to work. I left the first 2 wheels (axles) of each bogie as wheels11-wheels12and wheels 21-wheels22. The other 4 wheels(axles) on both bogies were renamed to wheels1-wheels4. These were then animated (as you would a steam engine wheels).

The problem I saw was that if you export as a freight vehicle then you don’t appear to get the animation exported and the back four wheels of each bogie will still not move. The only way I’ve found, at the moment, to get all the wheels to animate is to actually export (using the wizard) as a diesel loco. This does work and I have had a consist of 6 – andnbsp;24 wheeled bogie vehicle working being pulled by a steam loco with all wheels turning.

As I said it’s not a very elegant solution but it does work.

I did a 6 wheel vehicle by creating a Bogie 1 then added Wheels 11, 12 and 13, then animated them in 3DC. They work fine (except for someone who hadn’t installed the MSTS Update, so presumably the 4 wheels only bogie problem manifested itself). Perhaps you could try adding wheels up to Wheels 16, animate them individually and see if that works. If it works try Bogie 2 and Wheels 21 – 26. I’m probably way off,but you never know!

I hope it works as I’d love to see this model, having considered making a railgun myself.

Thanks, but I tried this already and it doesn’t work. Maybe I’ll try the engine approach, that would also give me the option of other animated parts moving after pressing a button f.i. moving the barrel.

Hannes44,

I could have a look at your model and see if I can figure it out. Just send the andquot;3DCandquot; file and associated textures to <!– e –>submissions@amabilis.com<!– e –>. I can’t say when I can get to it but I will try to get to it quickly.

Hi Hannes,

I built a 2-8-0 + 0-8-2 Beyer Garratt articulated locomotive. This is built in three sections, two locomotives with the body of each named main, one bogie with Wheels11 attached and the 4 sets of main wheels Wheels1, Wheels2, Wheels3 and Wheels4 – These were all animated manually along with the connecting rods/pistons.

The boiler section is defined as a .wag file (but with no wheels). Needs a bit of fiddling with the bounding boxes to get the sections to overlap.

I therefore think if you built your gun as three wagons, you might be able to get away with something similar.
