lol i must have over looked that several times. Thank you, it took a 3.5 meg down to a 500k awsome. Thank you very much <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

I am using 3d pro, having problem with my models being large in file size saving as directx. Can some tell me whys to make the file size or compress the file size down. Want them down to less than 500kb. General ideas will help me toward my goal.

Why does the file size need to be below 500k.
If your exporting the file for use in another program/app does the Program/app support other file formats. You could convert the .x file to a file type that uses less memory.

I convert my .x files to the .b3d format which is about a third of the size of the original .x file.
But this would only be of use to you if you where using Blitz3D or a program/app that suppoted the .b3d format.

needs to be .x because using directx and c for creating the app, not sure on how to load .3ds instead of .x, which 3ds is lots smaller also. I know more than 500k its slow loading.

I think there is a tool that comes with the DirectX SDK that converts 3DC Ascii X files in to Binary (and compressed binary) files. Binary files would load faster.

Do u know which program it is to do this, i cnat find one in the sdk, unless i am over looking it?

ForeverZ,
I may have overlooked it but I didnt see a converter in the sdk either. At any rate, here is a link to a 3D file converter that might do what you want. It’s shareware…<!– m –>http://web.axelero.hu/karpo/<!– m –> and supports 410 file formats.

Hope this helps,
Les

Thanks, i checked it out, to change to binary cost $55 for the software. I will play around with it and see if its worth that, mainly want to see the difference in size, i think i am getting better at 3DC and can now keep sizes under 500k on my ships. But thanks for the replys and help. With any luck i will get my game made and have great graphics. [img:31zu8sau]http://www.galacticchaos.net[/img:31zu8sau]

Sorry for the slow response.

There is a program called ‘mview.exe’ provided in the ‘bin’ folder. You can load an X file and the ‘Save As’ and choose ‘Binary Compressed’. That will make the file a lot smaller.
