Matrices vs sub_objects

.The current version is 4.1. Please tell me if you find something important I overlooked.

I’ve constructed some signals for MSTS that I can’t get to work with the MSTS signal andquot;sub objectandquot; mechanism.

With properly configured signal data and config files the route editor will let you enable/disable parts of a signal model. This is useful in that you can have a single model with 3 signal heads and then enable only those needed. You can also use it to make gradient or number signs on the signal visible or not.

I’m pretty sure that it’s not my version of the signal data or config files because I built a replacement s file for one of the stock signals in Marias Pass, using the exact Matrix names, and the enabling/disabling mechanism doesn’t work (all parts show all the time).

I have noted that the number of sub_objects in the lod sections is 4 for the stock signal (body + 3 heads) while is only 1 in the 3DC version even though there are 4 matrices in the model.

Any ideas?

Haynes44,

Thanks for the info. How about a reference to Hagen’s files? Maybe I can figure something out by comparison.

Just had another go with the German Signals from Hagen Knop. He obviously uses matrices for sub-objects because there is mostly only one sub-object in the *.s file and the referring names in the sigcfg.dat are the names of matrices. The signals and ‘subobjects’ seem to work!

I had and have this same problem and did some searching and discussing at Train-sim.com. I have been told a couple of times that it’s not possible to build signals with working subobjects with 3DC. 3DC isn’t capable of integrating sub-objects the way 3dmax or gmax do and MSTS obviously needs. It is too bad because I wouldn’t like to learn gmax only for building some signals. But there seems to be no other way?
Please someone (Richard ???) correct me if I’m wrong!!

Hannes44,

Thanks, will do.
