Material pallet loses texture bitmaps (resolved)

I just recently downloaded and installed 3D Creator on my new Windows 7 Pro computer. When I go to the material pallet on the construction window and change the texture library, after several changes the texture bitmaps no long show up. All I see is white textures. You have to change between several different libraries to see the problem, but it is very repeatable. Anyone have any idea what is going on? My last computer had XP on it and I never had a problem with it. Thanks for your help in advance. <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

Hi,

Sure does… You should probably make a post in the &quot;bug&quot; forum – it does the same on my Vista box… I haven’t seen Richard (3DC Developer) around here in a few weeks…

Scott

yes I can confirm this error is present, vista home addition (yes I know, can’t afford better)
If you circle between the different texture sets the bitmaps disappears after a while.

Also if you use the option to make a new texture library, and give the library a name, you have to include the .clt extension or you will get a file error-File Type not correct. I also wonder why you can not just select a group of textures and add them to your library instead of one at a time.

I am a software engineer with Windows experience and I have seen a problem like this in .NET when you use managed memory and it is released before you want it to be. Just a thought.

I am experiencing a somewhat similar problem. After several switches between different textures, the bitmap textures change to white. The texture is still there when using the mapping tool. However, when adjusting the textures after they are applied with UV Map, all I see is a blank white space. Occasionally, after working on a model for some time, all the textures applied to the model change to a grey-scale.. Closing the program and re-loading it does not help – I need to completely re-boot the machine.

I have seen this. Usually it is the result of not enough memory on the graphics card/chip, or more likely, not enough memory assigned to the graphics card/chip on a shared memory system.

I’d be curious to know what you have for a graphics card/chip, and if it is using shared memory.

8.2.6 uses less graphics memory, I think. But, not all plug-ins are available for it yet.

A couple of bugs here. The material pallet issue is listed in another post. But, I haven’t seen the issue with CLT.

Could someone having this problem let me know the details of their graphics card/chip? If it uses shared memory, and the amount of memory it has available to it. Thanks.

I can reproduce this after 7 or 8 changes of the texture library.

Here some information of the video card.

The issue I mentioned shouldn’t be a problem with this graphics card. No way!

I know that 3DC doesn’t release all texture memory immediately when a library is changed. Even with your card, if the texture library is very large, it’s conceivable that it could run out of memory, but still… I’ll have to investigate.

It’s not a memory issue in any way. I just reproduced it with some tiny libraries.

This was me being overly aggressive in my memory management. I have it fixed for the next release.
