Thanks, Calvin <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt="" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>
So far the optimal process I’ve determined would be to map the model at low detail, and then have 3DC update the UV map after smoothing to match the model’s geometry. I could then simply paint on the texture afterwards without worrying about everything lining up correctly. Of course, there’d have to be a way to export the updated UVs to a bitmap, like an Export Smoothed UVs button or something.
Richard doesn’t think it’s a good solution (which amazes me, frankly…but then again, I’m probably just now getting into areas more advanced than he’s accustomed to seeing from his general user base), so I don’t think it’s likely 3DC is going to have an optimal mapping solution for point-dense meshes anytime soon.
Using multiple textures was one idea I considered…it would have simplified certain things. But I’m worried that trying to work on a seamless camouflage pattern across many smaller textures may be begging for a migraine, hehe

In a very low poly fashion, at this time without textures.
Rendered with POW-RAY

And last (for now ): some mechanical parts of the transformation system of the arm.
What did you say? I’m a little crazy?
Yes, sometimes I think it too… andnbsp;

Well, it seem that the competition here is very high… andnbsp;
So, I’ve changed my route, now I’m working on a variable mecha: a mix of a Zeta Gundam and the Legios/Alpha from Mospeada/Robotech.
Here my WIP after many false starts… andnbsp;
Bye.

Alan,
You may get more input if your challenges have to be done and rendered in 3DC.For the ones that don’t have Bryce or know how to use pov-ray.Just a hunch or i may be wrong.I don’t have other renderers or don’t know how to use pov-ray.I’m sure they are a lot of other users like me out there.

I think they’re pretty cool ! Considering the migraine I’m getting from TRYING to use POV-Ray, where is Bryce !

Hey guys.These bots are looking great.Hopefully I will get a little time to build mine before the deadline is up.
I think Harold may have a point on the final rendering.The images presented so far are very good and could be intimidating to some newcomers.Maybe two divisions could be opened.One for external rendering and pov-ray and one for 3DC rendering only.
As Kirk said, it is just for fun and I do like seeing what can be done with outside rendering engines.
My 2 cents
Mike
