Large Level Problems??

Glad to hear it. Sorry I couldn’t have been more helpful.

Hello ALL!

I don’t if i’m the only one having this problem but I noticed that if the level gets fairly large in 3DC, it really begins to slow the modeller down. andnbsp; It got to the point to where I am waiting several seconds for the screen to update. Is this happen to anyone else???

BTW, I’m not building a world or anything, I’m just trying to make a decent race track and its taking me forever……

I meant between operations. andnbsp;I do agree that it is a lot for one object. andnbsp; How do you think I should go about with this track building process?

Also, I ran into another problem that bugged me. andnbsp;I was able to curve the track horizontally to make a smooth turn in the track, andnbsp;everything including the walls on each side of the track stayed constant. andnbsp; But when I tried to curve it virtically, it totally deformed the whole track, stretching the wall far more than it needs to be. Is there anyway to do this without totally deforming the track?

According to object attributes :

Point – 4608
Faces – 6912

I’m using the cross section method by making a cross section first and then extruding it until i have a track to deform.

This is just small part of the track too, not even going to be close to the whole thing…..maybe I should increase the polygon sizes instead of extruding?

How many points does your scene use? (Approximately.)

Richard

This is a lot of faces/points for one object.

When you say andquot;several seconds for the sceen to updateandquot; do you mean it takes several seconds for an operation to apply, or do you mean that it take several seconds between screen updates when you are navigating through the scene. If it takes several seconds for an operations then that isn’t out of line on a complicated object. But if it takes several seconds between screen updates when andnbsp;navigating then you may have an issue.

Ok, what is world designer? Never heard of that software.

But if you are refering to those BSP – like editors then I definately will NOT use because when those thing cannot create smooth curves for race tracks. andnbsp; Those are better suited for FPS type games. andnbsp; This is partly one of the reason why I am not using 3DGS to make race games anymore. andnbsp; If you played my demo HyperSpace Overdrive, you would notice how blocky the tracks are. andnbsp;Very unproffessional.

The reason why I am using 3DC is because when working with 3DRAD, such as B3D and DB, you need to use a modeller to create the eniroment(unless you use that world desinger thing). andnbsp;Pluse 3DC is a lot cheaper and work just as well as the the other more expensive modellers.

Just a quick question….

Why use 3dc?

I know that its a great prog and all… But why not use a world designer.

They are designed for level/world creation, so why not use one?

Hey Amabilis Support,

Thanks for helping…or rather not understanding my question. But I already figured out how to solve all the problems andnbsp;:). andnbsp;Everything shall run smooth now..
