Improving Rail Simulator Support – Requests for Assistance

Would it be possible to add a ‘favorites’ list to where you normally export your files? Could be a good solution.

As many of you have probably noticed I have made quite a few improvements to the Rail Simulator export. ([img:3aylebjt]http://amabilis.com/forumattachments/a/tpc/f/50410947331/m/286105014[/img:3aylebjt]
Rail Simulator Improvements
) Most of the improvements were based on Paul’s Rail Simulator export.

I’d like to continue along these lines and nail down exactly what people want and need. So, here is the place to discuss it.

I’m also going to be working on the Train Simulator Wizard to fix a few things it does wrong with Rail Simulator.

If you haven’t tried 3DC 8 yet, you may not know that access to custom fields is much faster than in the past via the Alt-double-click for shapes and ctrl-double-click for groups. The Train Simulator Wizard uses these fields. In version 7 it was a bit difficult, but I think it works much better now. I’ll spend a bit of time straightening out how the TSW uses these.

So, any suggestions? Feel free to repeat suggestions made in the past. As long as I haven’t added it in the most recent release. I’d like to come up with a consolidated list.

Hi Richard,

As Rail Simulator was superceded by RailWorks nearly 12 months ago. Isn’t it time 3DC was set up to export to the Source folder in RailWorks rather than still exporting to Rail Simulator.

Furthermore a choice of where to export to would be a great improvement.

Mike

How about a detailed PDF manual of what can be used and how to use it.

Yes, don’t forget those who have RS and not RW. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

I don’t see the problem…
I’m using 3DC 7.12 and my objects are exported inside the source dir of RW in the same way they were exported in RS. When in Juny i canceled the installation of RS, the wizard was unable to find the dir and request a new one. I gave him the new coordinates and i had no more problem. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

i would like for 3DC to reconize textures and colors from google sketchup pro in.3ds format.

A small question.
The exporter done by decapod has a custom field (railsimX) which is used for the extra parameter for the shaders like trainglass.fx
Is there something similar in the exporter of the last version (8.1.5)?

Request for a specific feature for the RS/RW exporter of 3DC 8.1.x

Some of the shaders of RS/RW need at least 3 custom values specifed inside the IGS file to work properly.
Trainglass.fx is one of them and without the 3 customparameters it loose all the ‘special effects’.
When the BP editor compile the IGS file, these value are stored into the geopcdx as: CUSTOMPARAM0, CUSTOMPARAM1, CUSTOMPARAM2.

Paul Gausden exporter is the only one able to export custom parameters and i think it is time to have the same feature in the basic 3DC exporter too. <!– s;) –><!– s;) –>

Ok.. i don’t know if the exporter was already ‘ready’ for this or was blocked by the ‘preview’ issue but now i can exporter the glasses in the right way. <!– s:D –><!– s:D –>

Many thanks.. if the new exporter will be able to export a specific objects of mine, i’ll be very very happy. <!– s:D –><!– s:D –>

It sounds like people are generally satisfied with the export.

A proper document on the procedures would be great, I agree. It’s really not my area though. I know that it should be, but it’s all a little more than I can manage.

Documentation of the RailSimX field would be good. It is in the new exporter.

I understand the desire to export to the specific folders using the wizard. What does it do if you install only RailWorks? Does it export correctly to the RailWorks folder?

When I’ll make more progress, [img:sft8eav4]http://amabilis.com/forumattachments/a/tpc/f/9606089974/m/575101735?r=498103045#498103045[/img:sft8eav4]
in my model topic
, I intend to report what I’ve been doing for the export: procedure, hierarchy, texture, problems encountered,…

I already have written a topic about [img:sft8eav4]http://amabilis.com/forumattachments/a/tpc/f/50410947331/m/670100964[/img:sft8eav4]
3DC material attributes and maps for RS / RW
. I’ll have to correct it as specular map export is not working as written.
