How does 3DC find the MSTS tools?

Brilliant! Off to download Beta 2. Once again Amabilis support triumphs where other products can only dream!

Richard,

Just downloaded v6.1beta so that I can start playing with the new LOD functionality, and hoping it would fix a problem I had with my v5.7 installation, that is, creating .S files that are not unicode. Unfortunately it has not.

I have 3DC installed on my D: drive, and I also have MSTS on my D: drive, but not in the default folder name. I keep my work in progress on the C: drive.

V5.7 did operate correctly but suddenly stopped at some point.

Ian.

I didn’t know anyone was still having this problem, so for 6.1 Beta 2 this all becomes a bit more sophisticated. Beta 2 looks for the registry key. If it doesn’t find it, or doesn’t find TXT2UNI where the key indicates it should be, 3DC will ask you to find the Train Simulator Utils folder.

But, there are other possible causes. We’ll just have to wait and see if this does it or not.

I’m also writing the parameters of all andquot;TXT2UNIandquot; conversions to files so I can see if perhaps the file name being andquot;convertedandquot; isn’t valid for some reason. (possibliy a URL instead of a path).

Richard (the other one) probably hit the nail on the head. The registry key actually points at TSUnpack. If TSUnpack is no longer with TXT2UNI then all of this stops working. But not in beta 2 <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

I just had a quick look at the sample code for the TSWiz plugin.
It looks for the registry key :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARECLASSESTrainSim.Packaged.Activityshellopencommand

I presume the value there should be a path to a file in the utils folder (don’t have it installed on this PC)
I imagine the export looks for the same registry entry to find the unicode converter.

I’m not sure, but it seems to be linked with tsunpack and how that works. I have been using 3DC 6.0 quite happily for a while and all exported ok. However, a few weeks ago I found I couldn’t andnbsp;open up some new activities (I think because I had re-installed MSTS sometime previously) I then had to run the ‘fix’ posted ages ago that got tsunpack to open up activities for use.

From that moment on, my models would not save as unicode and also the MSTS Wizard would not work. It behaves as if it cannot find MSTS. It happened once before and a complete re-install of MSTS cured it, but I don’t feel like doing it again at the moment! So, like you I have to re-save as unicode each time after exporting.

About to install 6.1, so will see what happens, but suspect, like you there will be no change, as it is MSTS tools that are probably the problem.

Thanks Richard. I just installed beta2 and tried it out. It asked me where to find the tools, and created a perfect .S file for me.

Good to hear.

I’ve almost completed a tutorial on LOD creation.

If Trainz export can ever be added, 3DC will do it all.

That’s up to the Trainz guys. I have contacted them twice about it but have had no response.

Thanks Richard. I just installed beta2 and tried it out. It asked me where to find the tools, and created a perfect .S file for me.

I have to admit, I was on the verge of defecting to GMax just for the LOD creation, but now I can stay with my nice friendly 3DC andnbsp;:)

If Trainz export can ever be added, 3DC will do it all.

thanks again
Ian.

OK, just spotted the full release. You are just too quick for me! <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>
