Thanks a million … who would indeed think that a button you use every day can do something like that to you …
Suddenly my models become invisible a short moment after loading. I can chose parts from the scene hierarchy panel and see the chosen part. But I never see the whole model, because if I chose another part the first one becomes invisible. I have 3DC 5.7a on a XP system with the latest NVIDIA drivers (everything worked well for about 3 weeks) I did an uninstall and reinstalled but no success. Please suggestions how to get me going again! Did I touch some switch unvoluntarily that can do this?
Hmmm, I also andnbsp;have no idea how the invert box got checked… andnbsp;
Well anyway, hehe, don’t consider the defaults things I’m talking about a set of demands… andnbsp;
I’m now sort of used to changing the specular value back to to 1 every time I clear the texture settings inpreparation for a new texture… andnbsp;I use clear settings as a step saver, so andnbsp;it’s my own problem anyway. (I had a lot of problems with forgetting to clear andnbsp;alpha channels when loading new textures) andnbsp;As you see, I’m just trying to see if we can save a few steps here and there…
I was thinking it would be good to add personal defaults to the File–]Properties–]Textures settings as well as a andquot;factoryandquot; defaults restore button.
Actually, this just happened to me too. I upgraded to 5.7a and it started doing this… I had been doing a lot of work on textures at the same time and I spent 2 hours tryiing to figure out how PSP had messed up my Alpha channels…
Richard… is there anyway that we can have certain settings as different defaults? Or be different on a fresh install.
I think andquot;invert texture translucenyandquot; should be unchecked by default…
Also… when you andquot;Clearandquot; the material palette it should leave the andquot;specularandquot; setting alone, the same way it doesn’t affect andquot;diffuseandquot; and andquot;ambientandquot;.
Probably too late to request stuff like this, right?
Hannes44,
You might not remember, but there were a few complaints that items such as andquot;Visible Cameraandquot;, andquot;Visible Lightsandquot; didn’t hold their value when a new file was opened like the other attributes did. The reason they didn’t was that I was worried that people would turn them off and not know how to turn them back on again. But I changed it since it was requested (and nobody disagreed). I’ve now had a couple people say andquot;My models only show up for a second and then they dissappear!andquot;. It took me several emailings and a lot of thinking with the first fellow to figure out the cause. andnbsp;
Pwillard,
Actually, andquot;invert texture translucency layersandquot; is unchecked by default. And andquot;Clearandquot; on the material palette does actually affect andquot;diffuseandquot; and andquot;ambientandquot; changing them to the defaults (60 and 20). Setting a andquot;defaultandquot; default is a good idea, but I’m perpetually pressed for time and I don’t think this is going to be done anytime soon. But I will add it to andquot;the listandquot;.
Richard
Stupid me! I found the switch I accidentally pressed. Didn’t know one could do this magic. Set me in quite a state of panic. Sorry!
Hi Richard,
when you added these new features, I was glad but thought they were not going far enough. andnbsp;Obviously, these are personal choices, but for example for me, editing using coordinate modes should also be remembered. andnbsp;I prefer using world coords by default, and keep forgetting to change back to them when I restart 3DC. andnbsp;Maybe a ‘save custom settings’ option might solve this problem?
Alex
Hi!
In my case it was the andquot;visible objectsandquot; button. You can press it and release it. With releasing all textures vanish and show only for a short time after loading. The down-arrow has nothing to do with it. It’s only the button!
I tried all the options you guys talked about, I have visible lights, visible camera, my andquot;Invert Texture Translucency Layersandquot; switch is off (switching it one did not make a difference)… PLEASE let me in on your secret so I can continue modelling …
Can someone please tell me what miracle switch this is about… I have the same problem (see post in New Users) and was referred here … all this makes sense, only the answer by Hannes only states he found andquot;the switchandquot;, not WHAT switch it was …
Thanks
