Graphics tablets

It is only with Paint Shop Pro I have problems, and that is the program I got it for. Not sure that it is much help with 3DC. I have my screen set to 1280xwhatever and it seem to only allow 640×480 of that to be used. Every thing else, and the desktop allows full movement over all the screen.

I found that using the mouse on the tablet is different to using an ordinary mouse because, if you want to draw a horizontal line, you have to move it horizontally across the tablet. Using an ordinary mouse, your hand tends to move in an arc pivoted about your elbow, but you automatically rotate the mouse as you go to compensate. With use, you would obviously get used to this though.

Overall, I found my ordinary mouse to be more accurate, possibly because I am more used to using it. Although the pen was capable of accuracy, I found that trying to click with it, or press it’s button, tended to move it, so I ended up having to do things more than once to get it right.

Overall judgement? Well, it now lives in a box in the wardrobe andnbsp;;)

Howdy
Does anyone use a graphics tablet with 3DC?

I’m currently researching which one to buy (which believe it or not is nearly impossible in Belgium – are there no artists in this place?). andnbsp; There appear to be many cheaper alternatives to Wacom, but would like to hear from any with experience.

While I’m asking, anyone know a good shareware texture generator? andnbsp;I want to make seamless textures from photographs. andnbsp;I-tex looked good, though a bit expensive for the use I would give it. andnbsp;Or should I learn to do it in an editor like Satori or whatever?

I use an (oldish) nisis G4 with my 2d art program but I don’t use it with 3dc as the mouse works best for me. The tablet uses a serial interface (not usb) and is a bit slow to respond to fastpen movements <!– s:( –><!– s:( –> I think it has 256 andquot;pressureandquot; readings (how hard I press down with the pen) but I think that 1/2 or even 1/4 of these would be enough as the push movement is only over about 2mm so to be able to read that much change over such a small range is silly (imo)

I think you should get a table if you are going to use it in another program (not 3dc) look for the biggest size you can, get a fast interface and look at the software that comes with it (sometimes many worth)

Also mine does not have microsoft approved drivers for xp <!– s:( –><!– s:( –>

sorry – can’t help with texture generator <!– s:( –><!– s:( –>

well irony of ironies. andnbsp;Today I just happened into a shop that had graphics tablets. andnbsp;I was so dumbfounded that I bought one – yest it’s a Trust <!– s:-) –><!– s:-) –>

It worked straight out of the box without even insgtalling drivers. andnbsp; So far it’s worked with everything I’ve tried it on.

It’s quite a big one – 12 x 9 inch, but was only a bit more expensive than the smaller one they had – but a lot more than the one I was quoted on earlier.

The only problem is that the mouse is a dog. andnbsp;

I’ll tell you how it goes with 3DC to bring us back on topic.

Does it work in other programs ? have you tried the latest drivers ? can you try it on another machine ?

if this is andquot;Trust’sandquot; idea of service I will not buy from them again ]:(

just thought – quite a few tablet drivers allow you to say what screen res. you are using…..maybe in control pannel ?

I bought a Trust tablet with pen and mouse to try, but once in Paint Shop Pro it only allows movement in the top left quadrant of the screen. I got on to Trust support about it and their reply was, basically ‘sorry we can’t help you’. It now lives in a box on top of the wardrobe andnbsp;:(
