Generating a ‘Blueprint’ from 3DC

Hmmm… I’ll have to keep thinking. This is certainly one of my priorities.

I’ll have to see how much demand there is for it.

I haven’t tried anything more than loading shapes as scenery into Rail Simulator. It seems to be more difficult to get egines and wagons working in Rail Simulator than it was with MSTS. But, maybe this is just that we are still all learning.

3DC created the ENG/WAG files for Train Simulator. I’m wondering if something similar could be done for Rail Simulator. After all, the blueprints are just xml fils. I think everyone knows that with everything else on my plate it’s not going to happen soon, I’m just speculating about the possibility of doing this.

Anyone have any thoughts on the feasibility of this?

This sounds good to me. All the complex information I needed to add to the blueprint comes straight from the model in 3DC. You may need to specify a naming convention for bogie and axle groups, and the coupling pivot and hook locations could be fixed by markers like you did the light sources.

If you default to using the Kuju 3 link couplings, the Asset Manager could be used to change it to other coupling types.

Hi Richard,

I have modified my RS_Tools program to automatically set up BluePrints for Route Templates and Route Marker files, this just copies default xml templates into the source folder and allows the user to add 2 or 3 parameters such as latitude and longitude.

The resulting BluePrints are then simply exported to the Rail Simulator Assets folder.

Something similar should work for rolling-stock although of course there are a lot more variables to be added to the .xml files however things like the x,y,z items must be available from 3DC and as Ian says, adding markers for the pivot points of couplings and bogies would make this even easier.
