fight ! fight ! fight !

One software that definatly should be allowed is a painting prog.I just dont feel that Editing the actual JPG. photo itself should be allowed.IMO

sounds fun, and I think it would help improve general abilities…would it work on an honor system in regards to filling the time?

Well we could –
a/ just put a andquot;week time limit on itandquot; – ie andquot; take as much time as you like but get the model/pichas to be in by friday to enterandquot;
b/ as andquot;aandquot; but say how long it took which could alter the marks
c/ set a shoter time limit and trust people to stick to it.
d/ have a set start time (when the topic is posted) and only have the time from them andnbsp;(ie Richard types the topic in and the model has to be posted back in x hours) (a bit of a problem as we are all in seperate time zones and this could put the start, for some, in the early hours)

I think b is best.

another idea is to have a max poly count some weeks ?

Alan,
Not a bad idea. Wonder what Richard thinks about it….. ;D

Les

ok – a bit off topic but….

have a quick look at [img:3knfu22g]http://www.3dfightclub.com[/img:3knfu22g]
<!– m –>http://www.3dfightclub.com<!– m –>
– here 3d artist slug it out making a model/picture with a time limit (ie. make a sword, cow, mouse, space ship, etc – but they have a set time limit – sometimes 10 mins – sometimes 3 hours….)
I thought we might be able to do something like this over here. Maybe on a weekly basis with an ongoing league table ? eg- week one could be andquot;make a phoneandquot; – at the end of the week we could all give points on which we think is the best (or maybe Richard could be the judge) carry it on over over a few weeks with a list of winners/ points ?
Any thoughts ?

A good point…. lets leave it ’till friday to see if there is any other interest and take it from there…..

Just thought – we could have a fast catagory (maybe with a one hour or so limit) and a longer version andnbsp;?

I like c

I have little control over my schedule, so having a set time is bad. andnbsp; And I have so little time to tinker, I think I’d give up after the first week when other people spent 5 hours plus and I got to spend 1 hour.

certainly if there is interest…<!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

Remember there are some people who may not live in North America andnbsp;;) andnbsp;Your ten minutes will be while I’m on my 5am jog.

Give at least a week and allow no more than an hour modelling time. andnbsp; And don’t judge it: it’s for learning. andnbsp; So also ask for a description of how you chose to proceed – this is in the spirit of the IRTC (Internet ray tracing comp. – linked from the POV site. andnbsp;Amazingly interesting things to discover)

Good idea though if you don’t do it too intensively and use up all interest in the first week.

Geo

Sounds good to me – no reason one week we can’t try this, the next maybe a high poly model….. if nothing else it should build up the number of models here on the site……

It sounds like it might be fun. But, I’m not too anxious to run it. But I will help where there is a need for me.

Richard

I like the sounds of this.Sounds fun.I think a weekly time limit is the best as for it seems more like a compition of ability then speed.I could spend a week modeling something that looks just as bad as it did when I first started on it.
Plus simple objects would offer a challeng to all.As for it would not be just a test of your ability of how complex a model you could make but also push the limits of your artistic Creativeness.
andnbsp; If you were to ask to model a sports car, many may not be up for the task as for this could be a realy hard model to make even simple.
andnbsp; But now lets say a Candle stick,Very simple Model that could be made from a cylinder with a deformed sphere on top to look like a flame, andnbsp;BUT andnbsp;then again could be made very High detailed with 3D engravings and mellting wax with some creative lighting effects, etc .etc.Now Thats a challenge for all.
Well anyway it sounds like a great Idea to me.

Rather than fast build or detailed, how about game efficient?

In the train sim area we have a need for low poly count trees that look realistic. i.e. 200-300 triangles (or less) and textures of 256×256 (or less) with minimal transparency – the models would get put to good use afterwards too <!– s;) –><!– s;) –>

They don’t need to bear up to very close examination, but should look a bit like real trees – modelling nature has to be the most difficult.

Would be interesting to see what real modellers come up with.
(there is not too much andquot;artandquot; in building most train models, more precision and texture work)

OK – for those who want to tka e part lets give this a try……

Week 1 – andquot;The Candle Stickandquot;

Please model a Candle Stick (thanks Kyril) for Friday 20 September 24:00 hours GMT. Supply a picture (400×320) andnbsp;(I will open a thread on the models feed back page). Please give a rough description of the construction and time taken – post render fx are ok.

Lets see how this goesand we can sort out next weeks……

I will see if we can have a andquot;roll of honourandquot;……

Alan

Question! andnbsp; Is this purely 3DC or are you using pov-ray to enhance?
