Fatal Error

Hello.

After purchasing 3D Canvas Pro several months ago and later it being upgraded to 3D Crafter Pro I had my 3D Crafter Pro terminate itself on me and it was returned to being 3D Crafter. When I would try to open it it would report a error and then crash back to the desktop.

So I had to uninstall it and download it again and then reinstall it.

However, that didn’t fix my problem, it only made them worse then they already were.

Now whenever I try to open up the freeware Crafter to try to restore it to my Pro version again it gets to this loading screen and then gets stuck.

It stays like this until I finally X it out.

I was making Content for the Railworks simulation game and the computer I’m using is a brand new Windows 7. It should be compatible, I took 70 dollars to get the program and I can’t afford 3D’s Max. I also can not learn how to use Blender.

I’d like to know if anyone knows what the problem is and how to fix it.

Sincerely Jonathan Burton Peters Jr

Below is the screen shot of where the program gets stuck and remains. No matter how much I fight with it it will not open up.

I had just installed the improved 9.0 version and it had been working.

But now it’s doing the same thing, I try to open it and it refuses to load.

And it reverted itself back to the freeware version.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

can you locate the log file ? It may give you a clue.?
Also what operating system are you using?
Could it be your anti virus stopping it?

How do you locate the log file?

And I run Windows 7

ok, the log file is named 3DC.log and should be located in your documents folder, do a search I am sure you will find it.
I am not 100% sure at what point 3dc starts writing the log file, so you may not actually even be getting to that point
I do not have Windows 7, but assume that its like most OS, that you have run stuff as admin etc….

…..

Do you think if I got rid of the log file I might be able to re download it and be able to start it from scratch?

I’ve backed up the log files to a safe place off of the computer.

And it isn’t the anti virus stopping it because it worked before with the anti virus on the computer and it didn’t hurt 3dc.

there maybe a clue in the log file as to why 3dc is stopping, so yes keep a copy safe, maybe have a read of it and see if theres a clue, it will open in notepad.
I doubt deketing the log and downloading will make a world of difference, I am guessing you downloaded it from here and it is the current version 9.0.1 and the file size will be correct.

I opened up the log file and couldn’t figure anything out through it unfortunately.

jpetersjr, you have a PM (private message)
If you email me your log file, I shall see if theres anything unusual or that seems out of place and then post it to the forum.
I understand there had been problems with 3DC and Win7, but as I do not use win7 I guess assumed they had all been sorted.

log file posted on behalf of jpetersjr, this is a WIN7 machine that starts to load 3Dc then just stops, it seems to be correctly installed else it wold not start surely. Any WIN7 users got a answer please….

My computer knowledge is limited but, I think this has something to do with writing restrictions in Win 7.

What you could try ,

Install in a different location other then C:Program files (x86)
Because I think that there are more restrictions for programs installed in that location.
Mine is installed in F:3DCrafter 9

Log-in in windows as administrator.

Turn UAC ( User account control ) off.

Run the program as Administrator.
Right click on the program icon, choose properties and on the compatibility tab check “run as administrator”

For my own installation, (Win 7 pro) I log-in with administrator rights , UAC is turned off and I do not run the program as administrator.

3DCrafter works fine with that settings.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Gerrit

That fixed it indeed. Crafter 8.2 finally opened up without any problem.
