Extrude object

It sounds more like a problem with the TRS plugin, I’ll try and look into it next time I get a chance.

Not sure this subject should belong in the plugins section so please move it if needs be.

I’m using version 7.0.21 with latest plugins from Paul.

I made the side of a bogie by using the extrude tool in ‘Object building Tools’ to make the side of a bogie. Duplicated it for the other side and added it to the wheels. I then exported it using the Trainz plug-in. When I load the model the shape of the sides of the bogie has vastly simplified. Any detail along the bottom side has simply been missed out which has distorted it. I must say that there were concave and convex contours cut along there to make way for wheel guards etc. They have been replaced by 2 solid diagonal lines that meet in the middle. I checked the model again in 3DC and nothing seems out of whack. Actually after the extrude I spent about half an hour going over it making sure everything was symetrical in order to reduce problems. Should I just make another one and hope for the best or is there a problem exporting an extrude of this type with both convex and concave contours. It’s hard to explain this so maybe a picture would help, which I’ll gladly upload if that’s the case.

Thanks, Tony

I had a similar problem with one of the earlier vesions of 3DC. The side frames of the truck were messed up in Trainz. What I did to fix it was – select the side frame then hit triangulate. It should be fine after that. Hope this helps.

I reported a similar problem to Richard last week and sent an example – hopefully he’ll be looking into it soon.

Tony – Did you manage to get this object to export to work properly?

I recently made some very complex underframes this way and they worked perfectly.

Paul, I hadn’t looked at this as I was waiting for the updated 7.0.22. A straight export of the extrude proved to have the same problem giving an over simplified shape.

I then triangulated (as Shawn suggested earlier) and it worked just fine. I’m happy enough with this but I think it really does need to be fixed though as not everyone will know to triangulate afterwards. Maybe if I made the shape again in the newer version, it would work properly.
