Exporting with train sim wizard

You know what? I had the exact same thing happen to me. I was making roof hatches on a hopper car… chamfered the edges and BAM! Suddenly the simple roof hatches had over 2000 faces… and I cloned to have 8 of them before I noticed. I had to delete and remake the parts.

I have been trying to finish up an engine and trying to get it to export using the wizard. It will not produce an .s file .I had been using the wizard as I was progressing along and now when I want to add a few finishing touches I cant get it to make an .s file. When using the wizard it will take 3 or 4 minutes before it tells me that it has exported it. I am using winxp sp2 and 3DC ver 7.01.1
If I try and manualy export just the .s file it will come back with an error # 9 after about 4 minutes. I can go back to my ver 6.6.1.0 with which I started the engine and I can use train sim ok or just export the .s file in a matter of seconds,no problem..any suggestions

an error 9 suggests it hasn’t converted from 6.6 properly to 7.0.1.

Have you got the file upgrader addin installed?

Hi paul
I do have the upgrader installed. This is engine is one of my first ones I built. I used a vers 5 for it. I loaded it into my ver 7.0.1.1 with no problem then used train sim wizard to put into the simulator with no problem.
I started making some improvements on the engine and thats when I run into problems. It seems I have hit the wall a far as the size in the .s file.the last one i was able to export is 8620 kb. Is that the maximum size that train sim will use??

8.6Mb is a tad on the large size, you’ll need to be a bit careful with how many polygons are in each group.

I could take a look at the model for you if you like?

Hi paul
I found the problem. I was redoing the piston guids and support on my 2-8-0 made from 3 cubes and merged. Then I removed the faces I couldn’t see. Then I chamfered the bottom edge of the verticle support and thats when things went haywire. Before I chamfered the face count was 18 and the point count was 28 after I chamfered the bottom edge of the verticle piece the face count went to 1114 and points to 30. I had made 2 of these so really upted the face count.
I remade them chamfering the bottom of the verticle piece then merged the other 2 horizontal guides and the count face count was 20 and points 30. Does this make any sense to you or am I doing something wrong.?
The bottom line is I can export the .s file or use train sim wizard and everythig works..

Glad to hear all is OK now.

There was a recent fix for the chamfering problem of extra points in one of the recent versions.

Thanks Paul. I have just downloaded the newer verion so now should be ok…Thanks again for your help
