Exporting a locomotive

Its OK. I got it working. One part of the simulation blueprint had not been completed correctly. I now have a box running up and down my route.

Now to tackle a real model.

I am a newcomer to 3DC and have been using the programme for several weeks now and have successfully made and exported several scenery objects to RS. However, I am now moving on to locomotives – an am having some very basic problems which may be due to my unfamiliarity with the program (US spelling!).

I have made a fairly basic diesel locomotive using Trainsim Engineer which I want to export to my RS source file.

However when I try to export it to RS I keep getting a message that ‘objects must have unique names’ and the export fails. Does this mean the 1_1000_ …. naming convention used by RS? The FAQ says I can name objects anything I like and the expoerter will convert them to the RS naming convention automatically. Train engineer anyway gives it MSTS names. The error message suggests using the ‘create unique names’ plug-in to correct this problem. When I run this plug-in , I receive a message that I must select two or more objects. A very basic question – how do I select two or more objects. I’ve searched the help files and cannot find an answer to this fairly basic task.

I also tried using the Train Simulator Wizard and filled in all the various parts of it that are relevant to RS. But again, the export failed because of the unique names problem.

Any help/advice would be appreciated. I am not a novice at modelling – using GMAX I built many models for MSTS some of which are in the UKTrainSim library.

To select everything, right click on an object in the main group and ‘Select Hierarchy’

This will select every object in the model – then run the unique names plugin.

Thank you for this. I am following the tutorial that RS have made available on their site to get an engine into the game (‘How to create an engine’). I have now succeeded in exporting the IGS file to the RS source folder, did the blueprint thing and got the successful build message. When I opened the game my engine was listed and I placed it on the rails with the usual ‘clunk’, added the driver and exited the editor. I re-entered the game in free mode and clicked on my engine – and received the ‘send – dont send’ message. I have gone back over my work several times and can find no error. Does anyone have any idea what is casuing this crash?

i have run into the send don’t send window a few times myself. One of the reasons is not having the brakes setup in the engine simulation blueprint and possibly the engine blueprint. The first thing that happens when you click on your engine to make it go,it sets the brake..
